Rank AP tests easiest to hardest

Could you rank these classes easiest to hardest? (I guess just rank the ones you have taken?) I am planning on taking these next year, input would be helpful! Thank you!

Music Theory
World History
Comp. Gov
Macroeconomics
Art History
Italian Lang & Culture
Calc AB
Lit & Comp

Assuming you either are fluent in Italian or took three years of it:
all of these courses fall into the easy category for AP exams and their difficulty will not be a problem. You should probably allocate the same amount of time to each one. The only problem you may have is finding time for all of these courses. I’m assuming you are taking 7 at a time with comp gov and macro being semester courses. But, yeah these are all easy if you just stay on top of the classes all year long and then review by reading through the barron’s or some other review book for each.

Ap Lit is NOT easy. The others aren’t too hard, though it depends on your skill set and your level of Italian.

Music Theory (taken) > Lit & Comp (friends) > Italian Lang & Culture (friends based on other languages and assuming comparable difficulty) > World History (took APUSH, friends) > Comp. Gov (took US gov, friends) > Calc AB (took BC) > Macroeconomics (friends) > Art History (honestly have no idea)

would be my guess but i haven’t taken all of them (sorry that’s hardest to easiest). I marked the ones i’ve taken/know people who have
@jimmyboy23‌ not true at all. Music Theory is one of the hardest AP exams, usually considered equal to Physics C. All those in my list through World take a lot of work.

Easiest = psychology
Hardest = Electricity and magnetism!!!

Guys, it’s an opinion, there is no way I can be wrong. My answer may conflict with your answer but that doesn’t mean it’s less true

@Esat936 I just took lit the other day, needless to say I feel very confident after taking it. The essays are not overly difficult and actually give you some possible points to use. I felt the prose multiple choice was very straightforward and that is just my opinion, coming from a kid who’s not that good at English courses.

@guineagirl96 I will defer to your opinion; this is the one class on the list I haven’t taken, but I have never heard of it being compared to AP physics C in terms of difficulty and have never heard of it being more than a medium difficulty course/exam. Most people at my school who take it have a strong background in music and find it easy, after hearing what they’ve told me about the course/exam and what people on this site have reported about the class/exam I have formed the opinion that it is an easier course/exam than most. Also, from what I hear unless if you have no musical background and are tone deaf, you should not have a problem with the exam.

P.S. AP physics C, now that is a hard class

This is my ranking, from easiest to hardest, of the AP classes I have personally taken:

VERY EASY
Human Geography - all about knowing terms
Psychology - again, all about terms

EASY
Computer Science - nontrivial concepts, but a simple test
US Government - know essential facts about our government
Statistics - this is basically a calculator usage test

MODERATE
World History - very broad, conceptual test
Physics B - large volume of material, but not conceptually hard
Microeconomics - again, broad concepts reign king
Music Theory - dictation is difficult for many
European History - large volume of material, but not difficult
English Literature - poetry analysis can be tricky

DIFFICULT
English Language - requires developed writing style
US History - very specific, even among history tests
Spanish Language - challenging by any standard

VERY DIFFICULT
Art History - large amounts of memorization and period identification

All AP’s are not equal difficulty, and the teachers can make or break the class. If they pile on busywork that doesn’t teach the concepts or prepare for the exam, they are wasting everyone’s time. However, only the students at your school can provide info on that.

Some AP’s are intrinsically more time consuming than others. From my experience:

The hardest and/or most-time consuming, IMO, are: Calc BC (if taught as a one-year course after pre-calc), Physics C E&M

A small step down to the next level: Physics C Mech, Bio, Chem

A small step down to the next level: Eng Lit, Eng Lang, USH, Spanish Lit

A small step down to the next level: World Hist, Euro Hist, Art Hist, Calc AB, Calc BC (if taught as a one-year class after Calc AB)

A huge leap down to the next level: everything else

Music Theory, Lit, and Art History are all supposedly challenging exams. I’m not sure about Italian, but the rest are supposedly quite easy. Calc AB is a piece of cake.

@jimmyboy23‌ Sorry if it seemed as I was dismissing your opinion. You are correct with most of your statement (and it is an opinion which I respect), with the exception of music theory in my opinion. You are correct, however, that music background makes a huge difference. Also, let me clarify that the class itself isn’t hard, but the exam is (unlike Physics C where both are hard) . It is mainly due to the amount of knowledge required for the test and the variety of skills it tests that take a while to build, such as dictation and sight singing.

I will also mention that i have no clue how hard Art history is, since it’s not offered at my school. Also a lot of these classes differ from school to school, therefore the exam might be harder for some than others depending on how well it is taught.

I think the English ones are quite easy. But I also think social studies AP’s are harder. I think a lot of this depends on the teachers you have, your study habits, and skill set.

I definitely think I can agree with most of your opinion, like I said that class is the one I don’t have experience with so you are the expert with that regard. I have heard that there is a lot of information (there is also a lot with respect to Art history) and I have also heard that there are sections of the exam that are tough just because it comes down to your musical talent and ear which I have neither.

The thing I think we can both definitely agree on is that these exams differ in their difficulty not only from school to school but also from student to student. I’m the kind of kid who thinks Chem and Calc were easy courses since they peaked my interest while english lit I thought was going to be a death match (obviously my opinion did change after actually taking the test). It does come down to a large extent two factors:

 1. How strong is your school in that particular program
 2. How interested are you to learn the material
