Rank Schools Based on Competition Level

Hey, everyone. Please rank the following schools based on their competition level (1 being most competitive, 8 being least competitive): Duke, Northwestern, Michigan, Harvard, Penn, USC, Stanford, WashU. At first, I thought the most competitive would be the highest rank and the least competitive would be the lowest rank, but I’ve read on some threads that Michigan is very competitive. I know that pre-med will be competitive anywhere, but I am wondering which of these schools I might get a higher GPA. Anyways, please help. Oh, and explain your answer please. Thanks.

Other than maybe USC all of them are competitive enough that trying to rank them be both futile and misrepresentative of a miniscule difference.

They will all be competitive but a better question would be which school has the best overall academic environment and then as a sub question…which has the most gunners…incidentally, I don’t think you’ll find it to be the same school…

And if you’re selecting a school based on where you think that you’ll get a higher GPA you’re making a big mistake.

i’m not. i was just wondering which school has the lowest avg GPA/highest avg GPA. if i wanted that, then i’d go to my state school or something, which i don’t want to. i want to be in a competitive environment, but not overly competitive. and mmmcdowe, are you saying that USC isn’t as competitive as the others? just wondering. thanks.

I am familiar only with 2 schools. Michigan is more competitive than NW. Do not know any others. However, I am not sure if location/residency state is playing a role and Michigan being public, while NW is private. So, being from certain state might influence acceptance to these 2 schools. What I am saying that Michigan residency might have a reversse affect on which school is more competitive for specific candidate(s).

“but I am wondering which of these schools I might get a higher GPA”

-There is no single person on earth who can answer this question.

ok, let me rephrase my question. which of these schools is more competitive in the sense that people are more individualistic and science classes are more rigorous

You cited some of the top schools in the country, they will all be full of individualistic students taking rigorous classes. Anyone who gives you a ranking is full of hot air, consider other factors when choosing between schools.

And yes, I am saying that my impression is that USC is maybe the only significantly less competitive school on your list.

OK,
I can rephrase my comment also. There is NO single school in the USA where pre-med requirements are easy. NONE. Every single school that I am aware of including lowest ranked state schools has very challenging science classes. This is based on comments from valedictorians from private schools who went to state schools for various reasons (to be close to home, to avoid paying tuition in UG…etc.) and who were advised to repeat intro Bio/Chem classes after having “5” on AP exams. They were happy that they listened, because according to them, intro college classes are much harder and include much more material than AP classes even in cases when they used the same textbooks.

If you are looking for “easier” school, it does not exist. However, I do not know anything about schools on your list. I just cannot imagine that top schools in the country would be easier than other schools.
