Rank UCs

Rank the UCs by their selectability, including why: GPA, test scores, essays, ECs.

I'm trying to see if I should apply to another UC as a possible safety/ alternate school or I'm overlooking some good UCs.

Mention, if you're attending a UC, your experience with the school.

i'd like to see this too

This might help:

First off, where are you applying to and what are your stats? That'll help me to help you.

I graduated from UCLA with a BA in political science in '05, and I'm currently a graduate student at UCSD.

I've posted my stats before, but most people said that I should raise my test scores. Currently, I'm studying for the Sept. ACT.

Your SAT essentially throws your application off balance. You'll need to break 2000 for any of the top UCs or privates. Otherwise, you have a great overall application.

I would look at UCSD in particular, because you may easily make up for the SAT with your other things.

wow...

how are you one of the top 5 students at your school with a 1640 SAT/27 ACT score?

I have a cousin that's going to UCSD.

I really want to go to UCLA, USC, or Stanford, even Harvard.
I'm trying to study to pull off 32+ for the ACT to make up for the bad SAT.

I don't want to settle with my SAT.
UCSD has good science research programs, but it's not the main school that I want to attend.

The 27 is from a practice ACT. I didn't study for the SAT and I zoned out for some parts of the test. Also, I guessed randomly on the Writing and Critical Reading sections, which is bad for the SAT.

nhsharvard,

I can appreciate that you want to go Stanford or Harvard, but you need to be realistic if you can't bring up the ACT or SAT score. You are at least a standard deviation or more from the mean at UCLA and USC, and are at least a few standard deviations from the mean at Harvard and Stanford.

I'm trying to study.

I don't feel like settling with my SAT score because it's ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave up on the SAT and I'm trying the ACT. I'm studying the PR book and using the real ACT book. I know that a higher test score can get me to UCLA, etc.

um i hate to break it to you, but like UCLAri said, i wouldnt put all my hopes on harvard, yale, stanford. even UCSD might seem iffy esp with that ACT score. i guess all you can do is increase the SAT score. but even then, i think the top schools you are applying to will be a big reach...of course i dont know your entire situation so i cant say for sure.
