So I’ve been looking at the 2008 US News rankings and I saw that Emory and Carnegie Mellon are ranked higher than UVA. I’ve been looking into UVA and I heard it’s a competitive school while Emory and Carnegie Mellon have lower scores. So which school is better? I know it’s a subjective question, but from what I’ve heard from classmates, UVA is apparently “better” and harder to get into than Emory or Carnegie Mellon.

It is not harder to get into UVA than Emory and Carnegie Mellon. Carnegie Mellon and Emory both have higher scores than UVA. Whether one is better than the other is too subjective to even touch. All three are great schools.

Don’t take US News too seriously. Or your classmates, for that matter.

The SAT scores at CMU and Emory are 50-80 points higher than at UVA. That’s a substantial difference.
