Does anyone think that with the new chancellor/investment in graduate programs UCD might become more prestigious?

Prestige is hard to measure - and I would say Davis is already fairly prestigious, since we perform well in many national rankings - but yes, I personally believe its prestige will increase in the coming years, especially if budget issues are resolved.

Chancellor Katehi has openly stated that she wants to improve the university’s reputation. Last fall she stated, “As we begin our second century, I believe that UC Davis is poised to be one of the world’s finest universities,” (quoted from her campus website), and has specifically referenced the long term goal of moving Davis into the top 5 public research universities in the country.

UC Davis has also seen improving rankings in its graduate programs over the past year. For example, the UC Davis School of Law improved to 28th in the nation (the youngest law school in the top 30) out of over 200 institutions. The School of Medicine is 20th in the nation for primary care. Our veterinary school is regarded as the number 1 or 2 school in the nation. And our Graduate School of Management has consistently ranked among the best in the nation (and, with its new facilities and funding, will likely continue to see its reputation improve nationally).

I hope UCD rankings do rise. Not expecting much though… XD, hopefully it improves in ranking by like 3-4 spots XD :D
