I applied for 8 camps and am waiting for the replies from the remaining 7 (I got accepted into BTP). I applied for Broadway Theatre Project, UMICH Impulse, Interlochen, OKCU, NYU:Tisch, CAP21, NYU:Steinhardt, and Carnegie Mellon. Could you rank these in order of prestige/what would look best on a resume? I really have NO clue as to which one is better over another and would REALLY appreciate having some help with it!

I could NEVER EVER rank those camps in order of prestige or which would look best on a resume. They are all well regarded. As well, that should be the last reason to pick where you wish to attend. These programs are all different. Think about what YOU want in a summer program and then figure out which programs correlate the closest with your selection criteria. You can’t go wrong at any of these and I know kids who have loved each of these programs. Colleges are not gonna care about the prestige of your summer program. The issue is gonna be more what you got out of the program that will eventually help you to be a better performer who will eventually “look good in an audition” as opposed to looking good on the resume. Also, at this point, you need to see which programs will admit you. Congrats on BTP! CMU will not be that hard to get into. Some programs on your list are quite selective and so it remains to be seen what your options will be. As well, the reply date to enroll varies per program. Another congrats in getting all 8 of your applications in in a timely fashion. You should explore each program in depth and compare them and see what appeals to YOU. That is how I recommend you pick where to go this summer.

Thanks! Do you know which ones are harder/easier to get into? That could play a role as well… but I will definitely look into each one more!

I will guess that UMich MPulse, NYU/Tisch, NYU/Steinhardt would be the three hardest to get into of the remaining seven. But I can’t say for sure as I don’t know you and this is a general idea but not an exact answer. A good sign is that you got into BTP and so you may get into some other programs. I think you will definitely get into CMU as it is kinda first come first serve with some selection involved.

I don’t know much about the other programs you mentioned, but I have attended OCU’s summer camp these last two summers, and have personally loved it! I highly recommend it for anyone who really wants to get a taste of what the life of a musical theatre major really entails. There’s dance, acting, and music theory/piano classes every morning, and in the afternoon you have master classes with the voice and acting faculty. I’ve been fortunate enough to participate in master classes with Florence Birdwell and Kelli O’Hara! In addition to all this, you rehearse in the evenings to put on a full-length musical production at the end of the three weeks… last year we did Sweeney Todd. And the faculty is so nice. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the program! Whatever you decide, I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
