Rant: What should I do? I feel like I've been robbed of any chance at a good future

I’m currently a senior at a very respected university in the northeast ready to graduate next semester. I entered freshmen year as a Computer Science major, because in high school i thought I had an interest in math and computers. However, a semester into school I realized that I really wanted to do business; specifically finance. My university has a very esteemed business school, and I knew transferring into it wasn’t going to be easy. I tried my best in my classes, which were a mix of humanities courses required by the core curriculum and some computer science classes (Mainly Java programming related). I finished the year with a 2.8 GPA and applied to transfer into the business school. A few weeks later I get a response saying I wasn’t accepted and to try again next year… (My school doesn’t allow you to transfer between schools in semester). I thought to myself "no problem! I’ll just write a nice letter to the admission committee explaining why my GPA was not that great, and see if they accept me conditionally (Must maintain a 3.0 GPA first semester or something…). No luck. I sent e-mails, wrote letters, and even called the dean… but I was told the same thing ("the process is very competitive yada yada yada).

So, instead of choosing to transfer to another university (I didn’t like the idea, I was very settled here and liked the school a lot) I thought I’d work harder sophomore year, take some business classes as a Business minor, and then try again. I did that. In all 4 business courses I took sophomore year I received nothing lower than an B+, and I was in the same classes with other BUSINESS MAJORS who were getting D’s and C’s… I ended the year with a 3.15 GPA, which raised my cumulative to just under a 3.0.

I applied once again and did not get in…despite taking the same business courses as a business minor that I would have taken as a freshman year business major and getting good grades in all of them. I again started the process of emailing, writing, and calling, pleading my case, but once again I was told the same thing.

I gave up on trying to transfer to the business school. I was already half way done with a CS major and a Business minor. I finished up the minor over that summer after my soph year and continued as a CS major. I fell behind in all of my CS classes, I simply do not care for the material. I settled for C’s in my CS classes and tried to do well in my other classes. My GPA was back down to a 2.8 after junior year. I tried to apply to several IT internships at the big 4 accounting firms and some investment banks… I was turned down for all of them. That was my last chance to get a job in the business world. I didn’t do any internships that summer because I’m not qualified for any- I don’t have the business skills (despite having a minor in business) to do IT yet I don’t have the programming skills to do anything related to CS. There is literally nothing I can do. And the worst part is I see some of these business majors around campus and I think: “theres nothing they can do that I can’t”.

Now that graduation is approaching the top kids in CS are getting great job offers from great companies. 90% of the business students will get great jobs from great companies. And I’m stuck here being declined by every company I applied to. I can’t even work at an advertising firm for $15 an hour… I can’t code or program that well so I don’t want to get a software engineering job (not that they would hire me anyways). I can’t get any jobs in IT because now every business school has a “Management Info Systems” or “Computer Info Systems” major. I just wasted 4 years of my life getting a degree I don’t care for.

I don’t know what to do at this point. people call me stupid for being a CS major and not getting a job. well I don’t want to write code for 8 hours a day. Should I just re-do my entire undergrad and get a business degree? Is it even worth applying for an MBA program with a 2.5 GPA?

Hmmmm. Well, I’ve heard of that same thing happening at the University that I attend. I think most people would go with the MBA path. I’m not sure how difficult it would be to get into a program from your school…but people can normally get into at least one graduate school, even with a somewhat low GPA just because CS is incredibly difficult here.

I probably would not even get into my own university’s MBA program which is as good as the undergraduate b-school.
