<p>STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Today, the world is moving towards automation; however, there is less recognition for the work content being executed and the time cycle being followed. Industries are now deficient of managers who have both technical and managing skills. This reason made me think of the realm of Industrial Engineering. Industrial engineers have the opportunity to work in different auras of businesses and non profit organizations. The most distinctive aspect is the flexibility it offers. Therefore, I am applying for Undergraduate studies in Industrial Engineering at the University of ____________________. </p>
<p>Why Industrial Engineering
I have always been curious to know how huge machines and factories run. I also have keen interest in learning the working of supply chain. I have had this curiosity since my kindergarten days when we visited a chocolate and biscuit factory on a field trip where I saw such huge and complicated machines. The curiosity hasnt faded and I still visit my friends washing machine factory which is pretty close to my city atleast once a year. As I am growing older I have also developed interest in how the financing of a company and the transportation and quality control is done. As I am interested in learning about engineering mechanics and business subjects both I believe industrial engineering is the perfect major for me. I visited England at the age of 7 and I was thrilled looking at the huge malls which werent present in my country then. My interest in the supply chain has developed since then.</p>
<p>My Family and Academic Background
Since my childhood, my parents have instilled a competitive spirit in me, which helped me in my academics. My parents are both professional doctors. My father is a specialized nephrologist working at one of the best reputed hospitals in the city. My mother is a medical microbiologist (MBBS, MD microbiology. My parents have taught me to be an optimist and accept challenges and tackle them with a smile. They have taught me to look at the brighter side of things. They have helped me realize that one can always find time for a cause if one believes in it and is passionate about it. </p>
<p>My initial education began at <strong><em>, Pune. In my 10th grade at school, I scored 92%. I have studied in Maharashtra State Board for Secondary Education, which is considered prestigious in India. I opted for Science stream in my 11th and 12th standard since it was the stream, which would lead me to do my major in Industrial Engineering. I have successfully completed my HSC by securing 79.83%.
I have taken physics (</em></strong> etc.), mathematics (________), and chemistry for the past two years. I have also learnt German in school for 5 years. I now plan to do a certified course which will help me communicate better. In my academics, I have done various projects. To mention a few, I created a working model of a house showing rainwater harvesting when my city faced water crisis to promote new ways of water conservation. It was a simple model of a house which had open channels like open pipes at the end of a roof so that water got collected in these channels and diverted into a storage tank. I am curious about the things around me be it living things or machines. I made a project along with my friends about rare plants and also visited a Japanese garden in the outskirts of my city to study a variety of rare plants. We saw butterfly catchers in the garden and were so amazed by their appearance that we made a short power point presentation about butterflies. We also made a project on hybridization of seeds and went to a renowned agricultural institute to study about it. We learnt about hybridized seeds and how they were different from normal seeds. Thus I believe the curiosity for science will take me forward.</p>
<p>Other Activities
In addition to academics, my parents also insisted that I should take part in extracurricular activities. I have represented my school in team games like soccer, cricket and volleyball. I captained my school soccer team. I was the prefect (leader) of green house and helped maintain discipline in school. I was one of the top sportsperson in school and when I devoted time to my studies in my major exam ie. 10th grade I also topped academically. I have been an active member in social service activities in school. I came early to school to regulate the traffic in front of the school. I also helped the kindergarten students to cross the main road. I also was a part of the school ecofriendly team and we won the cleanliest school award during my time. I also participated in tree plantation drives by non government organizations on the river side.
Through all these activities, I have acquired skills like effective leadership, creative visualization, team spirit, time management, rational thinking and multitasking abilities.</p>
<p>What I feel can be my possible contributions to your university
Academics, I have realized, is where ones contribution to the field is in direct proportion to what they gain from the field. My passion for engineering and technology, my very desire to gain as much as I can from your Institution, I believe, will ensure that I give my best thus benefiting the most from your university. On a more prosaic level, I know what I have achieved is akin to but a drop in the ocean, but what I feel will make me an asset to any institution group or department I happen to be part of are my qualities as an individual, which are, an unwillingness to give up no matter how hopeless the situation seems, conviction in human values, and my ability to foster a sense of camaraderie.</p>
<p>Short Term and Long Term goals
My short-term goal is to build a base to pursue research in Industrial Engineering by successfully completing Bachelors Program and then masters.
My long-tem goal is to enrich my knowledge and skills in this field and accomplish something that will benefit the overall development of mankind. I wish to gain some valuable experience and a healthy insight on the field, enabling me to understand the minute details and complexities in a much better way. And therefore I want to be associated with a research based institution like yours.</p>
