Where can I find ratings/rankings of colleges/universities by major? My straight A son wants to go into computer science. He will be a junior and we are just beginning to compile a list of possibilities for schools. Critiques of computer science departments at various schools would be VERY helpful. Any ideas where to look?

This is from USNEWS and does give a good idea on the top computer engineering programs in the US. I can provide some info on University of Illinois. UIUC sends the highest number of students to Microsoft, which is in itself very impressive.

Could you provide the link to the above data?

It’s great to be here in this particular location. The University of Illinois has a great history of contributing to engineering and the sciences, and actually this is the university that Microsoft hires the most computer science graduates from of any university in the entire world.

bill gates’ speech

Yes, but which jobs are the UIUC grads getting? Are they beating out the MIT grads for the top jobs, or just getting a lot of the lower-grade ones?

they are getting good jobs, lol, number 5 is not thaaaaaaaaaaat far off number 1…

they hire the most computer science students, so its not like UIUC students are getting hired as janitors by microsoft. and like sheed said, 5 isnt that far off from 1 =)

This has been asked many times, especially lately. Here’s the NRC ranking in computer science:
