This is random and probably not very important, but I’m curious…
Some sites say Northeastern has a 52%/48% female/male ratio, and some say it’s 50/50, and though either way it’s imprecise and slight, I was wondering if any of you who attend feel there’s a disparity between the numbers of guys and girls?

And another super random question - do people who go to Northeastern refer to it as NEU or NU or always just Northeastern? : )

Thanks…!

I believe officially it’s NU, but a lot of students say NEU. With NU, outsiders sometimes think you’re talking about Northwestern. Its a little strange though. When I first started I always heard NEU, but nowadays I think NU is more common…

But if you’re talking to people in Boston, I think “Northeastern” is the usual. For example, no one every says “Boston University” when they are talking about BU, but plenty of people say “Northeastern”.

And I’ve never really noticed any difference in male versus female, but I suppose it depends on your major. Chemistry for example is heavily female, which I personally guess is because the males go into chemical engineering to try and be more hardcore, but that’s just a guess.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I was wondering about the Northwestern confusion haha…
