<p>Hey guys, I know you guys are sick of these but this is the first one I’ve posted in like a year and a half lol.</p>

<p>SAT: 680 Math, 670 Verbal, 700 Writing = 2050 Total
SAT II (Killer): 600 Math I, 630 Biology, 780 History
GPA (unweighted) 3.8
Rank: 25/300+</p>

<p>Upper Middle class, Richmond suburbs, high school is not a feeder (new high school), but still competitive</p>

<p>Okay, so I know my statistics aren’t great. But I think I have some great EC’s:

  • Graphic design (professional-level, many awards for my design)
  • Classical Bengali dance (since before high school)
  • Cultural participation
  • leadership awards
  • national and spanish honor societies
  • amnesty international club founder, etc</p>

<p>AP’s: 5 US History, 3 Biology, 4 Env. Science
I’m applying for a history major.</p>

<p>What do you all think? Honestly… thanks in advance.</p>

<p>when i visited jhu they were saying how they wanted to get rid of the misconception that they’re heavily based on science and mathy people. They’ll probably like you since they’re looking for more people strong in other subjects</p>

mdkeung - when you say at the least, do you mean it is proably more or less than a slight reach? haha actually i can probably asnwer that for myself, i know that it is more than a slight reach</p>

<p>cujoe - i highly doubt they are hating on math/science people, but probably trying to make other departments stronger as well?</p>

but people with way lower scores have been admitted…
just make sure your essays are good.</p>

<p>Honestly, the fact that you’re (your test scores show you’re fairly well qualified, IMO) applying for a history major probably means that JHU, as a school that’s trying to build up its liberal arts cred, would be glad to accept you. I think JHU’s more of a match for you than other posters have indicated.</p>

<p>^^ You are correct. rheasilvia’s comment is inaccurate. Save for BME, Hopkins does NOT take your intended major into consideration when you are applying. This has been said numerous times.</p>

<p>ah okay, thanks for that clarification. i talked a lot about history though, in my essays, do you think this will matter?</p>

<p>I’m not quite sure, but I don’t think it’ll either help or hurt you. If the adcoms take a holistic view of your application, the essay is just one component out of many. As long as your essay is creative and insightful, I think it should be okay. I guess I’m trying to say that the subject matter is inconsequential.</p>
