Hey RD kids, did you apply EA/ED to another Ivy? If so, which one did you apply to and what was your decision from that school?

I’m just curious…

Hey RD kids, did you apply EA/ED to another Ivy? If so, which one did you apply to and what was your decision from that school?

I’m just curious…

If it matters, I applied ED to Columbia last year, which was my senior year of high school, and got rejected, then I applied RD to Yale and got rejected. (Applied to others and got accepted but not Ivies and most not very near Ivy-caliber)

However, if this is pertinent, as I started researching Yale more and more last year it started gaining appeal with me, so basically the only reason I applied RD to Yale instead of possibly applying EA is because it wasn’t really “on my radar” as much as Columbia was at the time. Incidentally, I’m now planning to apply for junior transfer to both.

I’m RD…i didnt apply ED becuz i wanted to make sure my essays and application were perfect…i guess i’ll find out if it was worth it.

I applied ED to Columbia and was rejected. However, I almost applied EA to yale. They were practically tied in my mind.

i did mit ea and got deferred…i was initiall going to do yale, but things changed…i was indecisive and just chose mit…im now doing rd yale

ED to Princeton (Deferred)
I was actually planning on applying EA to yale for a really long time, but my gc really discouraged it. In the back of my mind though, I knew I always saw myself more at Yale and now it’s my #1 definitely.

I applied EA to Stanford and was deferred. I still have some hope for Stanford since they don’t defer as many people as other schools do, but Yale is definitely up there. I kind of have 3 #1 schools since I can’t decide between them (Stanford, Yale, and Duke).

just when you’re replying to this post… keep in mind that adcoms can haunt the boards and figure out who you are. don’t say anything that would jepordize your spot!

are you serious?!

That’s true! All the ivy league adcoms are watching. After learning that I post on this site, my college counselor practically assaulted me to make sure I got the full effect of this statement.

Good thing I didn’t diss Penn. Heh.

Let Yale see me!..I’m not afraid!!!

yeah. sure, the adcoms are watching, and when they see a person they go spend hours trying to discover who they are in the applications. they’ve got nothing better to do in the world.

yeah…i was thinking that in the back of my head…lol

lol I wish that helped…then Princeton would’ve seen that I posted thousands of posts praising them. Perhaps they just thought I had no life. If only cc counted as an extracurricular…

I doubt the adcoms have time to be watching, especially at schools like Columbia, MIT, Princeton, and Yale, where they have a ridiculous amount of applicants. Why did your counselor discourage you, zante? It’s good to go with your first instincts. I wanted to apply EA to Yale…I was too scared to actually go through with it at first, but my counselor encouraged me and I did, and it worked out. Oh well. You were deferred from Princeton right? RD’s a chance to compare schools without being bound anywhere, which is nice.

I’m not sure what the point of this post was, but yeah.

Oh I’m completely glad I’m doing RD now. I definitely appreciate the choices.

My gc said that my school didn’t have a good relationship with yale (a lot of people still go each year…) and that it’s so hard. She was really pushing for princeton, and I really believed that I would have a good chance there since it’s like 30% ED. Not saying that I didn’t like it, it had pretty much everything I wanted but it didn’t give me that instinctual feeling Yale did, you know? I hope it all works out, but I like my other schools so I think I’ll be happy.

Oh, same at my school for Princeton! Every year, there are people accepted at Harvard, Yale, and/or Stanford, but rejected outright from Princeton. Some people are accepted, but fewer than from comparable schools. Go figure. College admissons are so weird.

HYP will always be weird like that I guess. We have an undeniably good relationship with columbia however and they accept a good number of people each year, so at least I have a decent shot there I think.

My number one Ivy is Princeton but I applied EA to Harvard (deferred) because I wanted to spend more time on the Pton app.

Yale is my absolute number one ivy. I’m only applying to one other ivy- Brown. The rest of my schools are liberal arts colleges (including Wesleyan, Amherst, and Haverford).
