<p>wow, based on just glancing at these stats it looks like the class of 09 might give me and my fellow 08ers a run for our money. good luck all, it looks like you all have awesome chances at getting in [based on these stats, anyways].</p>
<p>I love how the average SAT score of accepted Bowdoin students is a 1390 and the average SAT scores of the people who posted here par exceeds that (maybe it’s around a 1450?).</p>

<p>but just to remind others who might be reading this: Bowdoin does NOT accept people based on stats! The Admissions Office goes out of their way to select amazingly interesting people, those who have been leaders and have the potential to continue to do so, people who are intellectual and smart, yes, but are also creative and unique. I have two relatives in my extended family who got into Bowdoin. They submitted scores, which were pretty good, but but not as good as some shown here. They got in because they were awesome kids (one went on to win several national scholarships) who were accomplished in a variety of ways. One had a paper she co-wrote accepted at a prestigious international conference. Another, who has graduated, sailed a large research vessel in the Pacific (she was co-captain).</p>
<p>This isn’t the Ivy League, so it wasn’t the case that everyone was amazing, and it is ESPECIALLY true that athletes tend to be less amazing, plus it seems they run the alcohol franchise on campus! - but the other kids are still pretty awesome (this is from hearing about my relatives’ college friends. I can’t believe how great, interesting, accomplished, etc. these kids are.</p>
<p>Both my relatives are the only ones from our school (a NATIONALLY top-ranked high school) that got in. They turn down kids with 1550-1600 stats all the time - those who are just boring grade-grubbers for example.</p>
<p>The purpose of this is to give hope to those of you with less-than-amazing stats. Stats ALONE mean very little. Several of the high scorers at our high school every year end up mediocre students at mediocre schools, drinking their lives away - others end up at Bowdoin or the Ivy League. You can’t judge from stats…It has to do with motivation, drive, an intelligence deeper than having the skill of being good at multiple choice questions during a three-hour time period, etc. And Bowdoin graduates reflect this by being highly successful in many fields.</p>
<p>I believe Bowdoin is ALMOSTunique in this. That’s why stats are optional. Other top schools give lip service to the ideal of judging the student as a whole person, not a set of numbers, but Bowdoin puts their money where their mouth is.</p>
