Hi,
I am a 17 yer old female from India, and I applied initially to bunch of top-tier colleges for the class of 2012, and didn’t get into any of my favorite colleges. I decided to take a gap year, and then reapply. I wanted to know, what are my chances for the following colleges: Brown, Yale, UChicago, Wesleyan, Pomona and CMC? I was deferred from Brown ED and then ultimately rejected
My Stats when I applied in 2007 were the following:
SAT I: 1810 CR 600, M 550 W 660
SAT II: LIT 600 FR/L 550
%ge in school: 81%

My stats have improved to be:
SAT I: 2030 CR 730, M 620, W 680
I’m redoing my SAT IIs in October in Math I and French.

I was a prefect in my school, editor of the school newspaper. I also havre received one national award for MUN from the ambassador of Egypt, won one intl award in MUN. Head of MUN club in school, organized an MUN on my own for 555 kids from across the country. I also am trained in opera, western classical music and have won a lot of awards for my singing. I cna speak fluent french, english, tamil, hindi, korean and japanese. I am learning German this year. I got a job this year with a leading newspaper in India as a journalist, and also spent this year traveling all over France, studying Advanced French and World, War II. I got a whopping 90% in my National Board Exams in the ISC, and topped my school in Sociology and Advanced English. I am going to be the recipient of the Advanced English prize on Aug 28th. I also attended the UVA Young Writers Workshop in 2006. I have represented my school in a variety of debate and culutral competitions, and I am applying to all my colleges for History, IR and / or English,
I have one handicap which is that I did not take Math in my 11th and 12th because i’m just realy bad at it.
Please help me! I want to know which colleges I have a good chance wth! Hopefully Brown, whichi is my first choice!
Thanks a lot!

Hi, your ECs look good, but your SATs are really bad… at this stage I think you should really get a good SAT (>2200) before trying out those schools cos you are applying as an international

with the whole language thing you should take all the SAT2s in those subjects. to me, your claim of being ‘fluent’ in french seems dubious considering your 550 on the french SAT2s…

lol, yeah. Thats because I accidentaly registered myself for french with listenin when i thought i had registered myself for written french. quite a surprise on test day!!!
yeah i know i should improve my SATs but its math which is a huge problem for me. i thought that doing my SAT II in math and a british A-S level in math would help show my colleges that im not completely ■■■■■■■■ in math but i just ont like it nor am i good at it.

Wow, your credentials are really, really impressive! I wish I could speak six languages, lol. Does this appear on your applications anywhere?

1234d is right, not that your SATs are “bad” but that they’re below the middle range for the types of schools to which you’re applying. The SAT is a really “learnable” test, and you seem like you’re very intelligent and capable of grasping concepts easily, so if you find it worthwhile to retake, I think that you could definitely get your score to 2100+.

Yale is a complete crapshoot, but I think that you could wow Brown (your second-biggest reach) as a person; I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in. Your other schools seem within reach, too – just spend a lot of time on your UChicago essays. (:

Anyways, I’m really impressed by you and shocked that you didn’t get into any of your top schools last year – sigh, just goes to show the quality of applicants nowadays… or maybe the ridiculous weight placed upon SATs? I don’t know. But I wish you the best of luck this year… I think you’ll do great!

yeah, i wrote it all dow on my apps last year, and i got deferred from brown when i applied ED and then ultimately rejected. My problem with my SATs is mainly my math, because i REALLY suck at it. i just dont have affinity for it like i do for english. I’m not as keen on Yale as I am on Brown. I did get in last year, to Duke and UVA but I’m just very keen on Brown.
I think last year I also got rejected from most of my colleges because my essay was tres boring. it was just a really ****ty year for me last year because my mom died, and my dad was climbing macchu picchu and i had no one around and basically did all my apps myself!! they were pretty bad plus my school gave me a 50% predicted on the ISC when i got a 90%!!!
Thats why I’m hoping this time around it iwll be a lot easier. also, the 2008 batch was RIDICULOUSLY competitive, this year itll be a lot easier i hope.
