Re-Visiting Many Schools

I have found out that some kids apply to 10+ schools. Personally, I applied to 5. I have a (sort-of) ranking in my head of how much I like the schools and basically created 2 tiers (3 schools I REALLY liked and 2 I liked). As I think more and more I realize that there are things that I like about each school and I would like to revisit each school for me to really decide. On the chance that I get accepted to 3 or more, How do I revisit all those schools in the same week? Do other students just narrow their choices down to 2 or 3 and just revisit those? Obviously I have to wait to see what schools I did and didn’t get into(OH, the HORROR if i didn’t get accepted anywhere) and then decide what schools I can revisit. How do students that get accepted to many schools revisit those schools? Will schools let you re-visit them on non-re-visit days if you can’t make it to their revisit days?

From previous posts, I believe that you are allowed to visit on a non-revisit day.

From what you’ve heard on this website, 1) How many schools does the average applicant apply to and 2) How many do they usually revisit?

Most schools have more than one revisit day so if you’re only visiting 2 or 3 schools it’s very manageable. When you get up to 4 or more you may hit scheduling conflicts but in my experience it is possible to visit on a non-revisit day if you need to once accepted. My only caution would be that once you get up to that many schools the decision gets harder. It would be better to narrow your list to a few once the decisions roll in.

Thanks @Sue22‌ I just had a weird thought that maybe it would be better if I didn’t get in to many of them so I don’t have to make a tough decision. Then I remembered I am a control freak and I would want to decide myself.

@GryfinnHunter This is last year’s. You can see how many schools they applied to. There was also a chart where you see how many they revisited, but I can’t find it.

Thanks so much. Are you an 8th grader?

Yup. How about you?

Yeah, 8th. I applied to Andover,Exeter,SPS,SAS, & Milton. What about you?

There’s a revisit column.

How many schools did you apply to this year @stargirl3‌ ?

Take out SAS and add Lawrenceville, Deerfield, Kent, Choate, Hotchkiss, and Groton.

You applied to every single prestigious NE boarding school. How many essays did you have to write?

A ton, although I was able to slightly reuse some of my essays.

@mathman, I’m kind of surprised that you are only applying to the “elite” schools. You juat have been around and active on this board so There has been a lot of experienced advice about doing that.

Did you know of the prestige of the schools? When I started my BS search I didn’t know Phillips Exeter from Phillips Screwdriver.

I am completely aware of the advice. That is why I do have one non-acronym school on my list. And yes, I do know about the prestige of the schools. Haha are you referring to GMT’s post?

Well, catinthehat579, that’s what happens every year…

To the OP, regarding visits, you have to think about your parents’ ability to get you to these revisits — not to mention your own ability to miss that many days of class. Even if you are lucky enough to get into all the schools, I would probably only visit your top 3…so that means SAS and whatever 2 you like second and third best! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

However, my “non-acronym” school is not at all worse than an “acronym” school. I picked my schools on how much I loved them, and yes, I know that most of them are “acronym.” We shall see on M10.

Thanks @SevenDad‌ although SAS may not be possible location wise. My 3 top schools are all in the same area and SAS is not. Although SPS is in my top 3 so maybe that will appease you.
