<p>Actually, I think Stanford along with Harvard, Yale, and Princeton allows you to do EA at a public institution along with REA at Stanford. Check out their website again for confirmation.</p>

<p>Personally, I think OP is asking that WILL S be able to know if you applied EA to any public schools (and will that knowledge affect your application) rather than can someone apply EA to a public institution and apply to S.</p>
