wow…i would have cried for days if i had known these numbers before i got my letter in december. good luck to everyone who applied RD though! i’m sure it’ll all be good, so don’t worry.

omg that completly threw me off
okay at least now i know 100% i am rejected
wow thank you for destroying the tiniest bit of hope i had :stuck_out_tongue:
wow this really blew me away…
shocked :(

just when i was starting to set my hopes on this school…geez i would love to go here…oh well :/

wow i guess it’s for my own good that i saw this post…but it felt like a slap in the face :(

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy does it have to happen this year???
oh whyyyyyyyy
:(

sob, gulp, sob

i was reading post from academic year 2004-2006 when i read this i though was form that cycle and iwas laguthing now that i saw says dec 15 2005i beging to cry iam apply as transfer student which is even conpetitive :

I heard Wash U also broke records this year. I think the class of 2006 (high school) will have a tough year :(

So does that mean NU is rising in prestige as well?

Last time we broke the record, the football team went to the Rose Bowl. We had a pretty good football team this year. Coincidence? ;)

I don’t think it’s only that, Sam Lee. The application number is up 12% (almost 2000 people) this year and the reason is probably the college frenzy. More and more people apply each year, more and more get rejected from the Ivies, so they come to us. Those baby boomers, first they’ll screw our social security and now this… Anyway, I didn’t mean to post this to encourage anyone, on the contrary - don’t feel stupid if you didn’t get admitted. It’s not you fault. Like the provost of NU put it on our first meeting here, “If I was to apply this year, I wouldn’t even been waitlisted. Back when I applied the median SAT was 200-300 lower…”
Plus, this is the second year they give money to internationals (like me) and last year it was not widely know, unlike this year (these are my observations), so really, the spike created by the internationals will not affect you American kids all that much, since we are competing in different pools, but I am not that brave to state that the whole new 2000 applications are from international students.
The good side for the already admitted students is that they are going to a more competitive school. The yield will be about the same this year, so the admission rate will fall to 25%. I can only imagine where this will be going in the peak in 5-6 years…

You have a good point. The football thing was meant to be a joke. I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with it, not like last time when the team totally shocked the football world and there were so much hype. The football team has been fairly competitive and nobody took the Wildcats lightly in recent years. This year’s performance wasn’t really surprising and honestly we could have done better (e.g. we let Penn State get away).

Brings a knife and stabs himself

why does our year have to rule so much???

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I think part of the increase must have to do with the increased number of online applications, and the average student completing more applications.

Assuming that the numbers in the article are right and that “the pool does not include those who applied early decision” (as said in the article though I wonder why would the author compare a RD number with last year’s RD+ED number), we have the following:

Projected # offers (RD+ED) 4819

offers from ED 537

Projected # offers from RD 4282

RD Applicants 18177

RD acceptance rate 23.6%
Total # of applicants (ED+RD) 19377
Overall acceptance rate 24.9%

Yeah, Sam Lee, seems like you are right. The admissions web site says last year we had 16,221 Total applicants. I suppose total includes early and regular, so the applications this year are up by 19,377-16,221=3,156, or about 19.45%. That’s something.

urghhh so we get

New SAT’s
New ACT’s
More People
and lower acceptance rates.

What else u got…God of Admissions?

I am sure something else will turn up as well, so stay tuned for more bad news.
