My stepbrother is at Harvard. PM me, I can email him your essays and ask if he’s got tips. He’s told me this much, though: Whatever your “passion” is, kill it. Basically be the best at it. To be honest, I love playing the harmonica, so I performed charity concerts with friends. That’s unique, plus I’m very good at it too

I think that what matters is the sincerity of your essay, not the topic. My ComApp essay was on my love of books, and my Harvard supplement was about spending one last day with a good friend before she moved away (it was also my Georgetown essay). But in the end it was more about one’s youthful inability to change the world. TBH, they are both incredibly corny, but I meant it.
