Reading can be a deleterious addiction

I personally find it to be so. A lot of times I can deceive myself into thinking I’m learning and being efficient because I’m reading, when I’m really not. For example, I should have avoided delving so deeply into coconuts and Tazmanian wildlife the other day.

There are much worse things to be “addicted” to. On the plus side, reading taught you to use fancy-schmancy words like “deleterious.” :)

So can drinking water, but you aren’t going to get people to stop hydrating.

lol but at least you get full of it fairly fast, so there’s no worry of wasting your whole day gulping water.

^^ true, but I think reading’s a rather perturbing addiction, because it’s so covert. We’re taught reading is an all around good thing, so it’s hard to realize when inane reading compulsions are actually counterproductive forces in our lives. Which is opposed to the addictions we’re more familiar with (for example, drugs), which we are taught to be careful with from the start. No one’s given the same precautions about reading.

Try porn instead…MUCH better use of your time.

^this
Its only addicting if you admit you have a problem
