Reading SATI/ACT Writing Sample

While reading Yale’s FAQ section, it says Yale requires the writing samples from the standardized tests. Does this mean they read the essays we wrote for the SAT’s?

Yes and no, the reading sample is sent with your SAT score report and once you make it past the initial review they will use your SAT sample to gauge the authenticity of your essays. For instance if you scored a 2 on your essays on the SAT or ACT but wrote a wonderfully magnificent essay that may raise the first red flag in which case they would analyze how your teachers assess your writing skills. They don’t actually weight it for anything, or so I don’t believe. Keep in mind also they know that you only have 25 or 30 minutes to write your SAT/ACT sample but months to write your admissions essays, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
