Real competitive at Cal?

How competitive is it at Cal? I’m asking in terms of being accepting into Haas.

Yea, I would also know how is the competitiveness rate at the College of Chemistry, especially as a ChemE major.

Haas is very competitive. I talked with a junior in Haas, and she said that it really is very competitive there. Around 50% of Haas applicants get turned down. Applying to Haas is like applying to college all over again. Biz Ad is Cal’s most impacted major (or so I heard).

I’m trying to find out how competitive UCLA’s bizecon is. If its easier to get in there, I’ll probably choose LA, since job placement rates and starting salaries are similiar among Haas and Bizecon grads.

No… I highly doubt they are the same. Haas is definitly higher. I’m just terrified that I won’t make it when the time comes. I’m asking about how hard does one have to study?

abc, you read daraverla’s thread in the ucla forum. Haas’ degree is more lauded than UCLA’s, but Bizecon will give you good jobs ($40k-60 a year as starting salary).

If I could look into the future and see that I’m guaranteed entry in Haas, then I would go Haas.

$40k-60k a year isnt bad (plus possible bonuses). It’ll sustain you until you get your MBA.

I guess what is worrying me is that because I have a girlfriend I’m afraid I will be so deeply consumed in my studies since it is so competitive there. Any insights?

bump…

Does chemE get competitive to the point where most people switch out? What is the percentage of chemE students who stay with it the whole way through?

dood. 1/3 of the i-bankers I know from Berkeley are econ majors. the other 1/3 are haas majors. Then the other 1/3 are PEIS, Engineering, Math, Rhetoric, etc… majors. You’re first job out of college will depend more on your internship experience, GPA, etc…
