Real estate: What are you seeing?

haha

I am not flipping as I paid near retail for it. I had to buy because the money in my pocket is burning a hole. I i have to do a small renovation and rent it out until the value increased to a suitable number.

The way that market is going, that could be soon.

Artloversplus, good luck.

@dstark, That house in Tiburon is gorgeous. There seems like there’s just too much “Monopoly” money around in parts of CA.

Odd, but we have encountered at least 5 Californians (2 hired by my H’s group) who have moved to TX for jobs but have kept their homes in CA because they (1) are afraid they’ll be priced out of the market if they want to return or (2) think their house is too good an investment to give up. They are also plopping down money for McMansions here. That’s a lot of money tied up in housing.

@AttorneyMother‌, yes…

Once you leave Calif, it is difficult to go back.

I sold my house because I didn’t want to have too much money in housing. Oops. :slight_smile:

Those employees are smart. :slight_smile:

@dstark‌

Until they aren’t? I repeat, that’s a lot of money tied up in housing. :slight_smile:

Was in a shock since 2000 when we moved here, 2008 crash was an opportunity we did not pass.

I was just looking at what is on the market in the neighborhood my s wanted but kept getting shut out of and the one he bought in. The first is now ridiculous. He couldn’t even put an offer in on anything on the market now. What a change in the past 6 mos. And what is currently on the market where he bought would have been unacceptable for various reasons… I am now feeing they are quite lucky.

@AttorneyMother‌, maybe. The state does have water problems. :slight_smile:

If the goal is staying in the Cal real estate market, staying in the Cal real estate is a way to do it. :slight_smile:

I think your son was very lucky, jym. It appears that getting in right now at any price, is fortunate indeed!

@dstark, I like your logic! :slight_smile: I’ll try not to check on what my parents’ old house in the East Bay is worth these days, but it’s not Marin County. They sold in 1998, which was not a good time; but they sold to retire and move.

Well, Fiancee should have gotten the keys today or will get them tomorrow. Am waiting for a photo!

@AttorneyMother‌, :slight_smile: .

I can’t predict the future. If I could, I would have kept the house. :slight_smile:

If your parents owned in Berkeley… Omg… The prices there are through the roof. :slight_smile:

Where I live now is better for us.

@dstark‌

Best not to look back. It’s distortive. I hope my parents don’t know how to use this internet thing to check on house values. :slight_smile:

@AttorneyMother‌,

Lol!

Monopoly money, indeed!

Wow! I grew up in the sunset district. That price is ridiculous.

This is why you can’t sell in certain areas of Cal. :slight_smile:

BunsenBurner, my nephew just bought a condo in Seattle. It was a lot cheaper. :slight_smile:

Congrats to your nephew, dstark! I’m sure he was a me to find something better than the house in that article. :slight_smile:

Hope none of our CC’er pals live in/near these homes in Des Moines, WA. Landslides! http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Landslide-continues-to-threaten-homes-in-Des-Moines-298096391.html

And looking at that ramshackle house in SF, I am all that much more comforted by DS’s purchase.

dstark, your friend’s house in Willow Glen finally is pending. It languished for one month and after a price adjustment, it immediately had an accepted offer in 5 days.
