I keep getting e-mails from certain colleges but I don’t know if they’re legitimate or not.
the college names are:
University of the Pacific
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
St. John’s University
Duquesne University.

anyone ever heard of any of these colleges?
any good?

they all say that they’ll waive the admission fee for me
and I can get some sort of first-choice, special application.

Depends on which St. John’s. There’s one in New York that’s part of the Big East that’s pretty good, and one in Minnesota that’s not as good. RPI is also a pretty good tech school. Don’t know anything about University of the Pacific, and I’m vaguely aware of Duquesne (probably because they made the NCAA basketball tournament at some point).

University of Pacific has a well regarded dental school, and they have an accelerated undergrad program for dentistry and others like law and pharmacy.

I believe that Duquesne University is a mid-sized school (over 10,000 students) located in Pittsburgh, PA. I don’t know all that much about it, except that if one were to rank the Pittsburgh schools, it would probably fall behind University of Pittsburgh.

I have a friend who looked at University of the Pacific… she was using it as a safety school for some of the “better” west coast universities (University of Southern California, UC-Berkeley, UCLA).

Lastly, Rensselear is definitely recognizable to me… it’s a very strong tech school located in the greater Albany, NY area. They also have a five year architecture program which is rather well-regarded, I believe. Out of the four you’ve listed, RPI is by far the best school.

RPI’s a great school and provides great merit aid. For someone looking to major in engineering, it’s usually a great safety/match.
Dusquesne and St. John’s are both real (I’ve heard of them both), but I don’t know much about them (other than the fact that a fairly intelligent kid from my school is a current student).
