So last year my newly planted bed of mondo grass ground cover barely survived. I blamed my watering schedule. This year we are waaaay over average with watering but I’m still seeing plants turning yellow and dying. Is this from mole/vole/other critter? I see humped trails through the mulch but no entry/exit holes. How do I tell and treat what’s killing my ground cover?
Moles go after grubs, so the moles can be a secondary indication that there is something eating the roots of your grass. Do you have crane flies where you live? Crane fly larvae is the number one cause of lawn damage here in the PNW.

Here are some tips - the roller thing does work.

So we are having a ground hog issue.
Spotted him/her/ it 3 weeks ago. Saw it and found a big hole next to our side foundation. Threw in a lot of cat pee a and poop from litter and then filled hole. No groundhog for a week and then it dug out again. Repeated the previous acts and so far no return for 8 days. Ugh.
Any suggestions? We did contact a trapper but cancelled because of the odd behavior of this critter.
BunsenBurner gets it. Apply insect control or grub killer once or twice a year, and it solves both problems. The moles don’t go where there are no tasty grubs munching on roots.
I don’t know if I have moles but I see exit and entry holes near my squash.
