There are many many intelligent and qualified people at my school and in my area, and I know race plays a pretty big factor in admissions. I don’t know how to evaluate my qualifications as a student and decide whether or not to apply. I don’t have any family connections and am still pretty new to the area I currently live in as well.

Hopefully, race does not play the factor you think :(. Are you a US citizen?

How so? And yes I am. Born in Illinois.

You seem like a fabulous prospect for any school you would want to apply to. I would not limit myself. You seem to know who you are academically but refine it further. I would apply anywhere you want but spend some time looking at specific programs of interest and develop a plan. If you like to write, for example, think about where that will be nurtured. What publications would you like to write for at Yale? Other Ivies?
