My plan is to skip a year (well more like a semester) by passing about 3 CLEP exams before the beginning of this spring semester and completing the remaining 45 or so units over the next two semesters. I would like to get into investment banking, therefore I desire to transfer out to the east coast, preferably to UPenn. I know how extremely difficult to almost impossible it is to transfer to a top 10 private school on the east coast, but anything greater than 0% is still a chance, so I’m going to try my very best. Meanwhile, I just wanted to know if it’s realistic to even plan this out. My vague plan is to:

-Gain 15 or so units by passing college level Chem, Math, and English CLEP
-Complete 30-35 units in Summer, Fall
-Apply to target schools
-Apply for an internship at a BB(bulge bracket) in my junior year from my target school (I know I already will be considered behind here)
-Continue working at the same bank as an analyst and hopefully become their associate.

If anyone has a similar plan or had been in the same shoes, your advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

I’ve noticed that several of the top schools say on their websites that they don’t transfer credit received by examination. Try using the search function on the webpages of the schools you are interested in to see if you can find out specifically for that school.

I have a very similar plan, but I suggest one step at a time. Applying to a BB is still a bit away. Basically, what you have planned is good, but now do each step because you never know what can happen. Especially with this subprime mess, oh joy…

I will be going to a CCC for the first year (spring, summer, fall '08) and transfer out, and they luckily do accept CLEP credits.

I do realize thinking about BB (or even a top school) is just way up there, and I would never reveal this plan to anybody that I know in person (I usually say “probably one of the UC’s” when asked by people what school I want to transfer to when I’m actually currently aiming for a private on the east coast), but since this is an anonymous space, I laid out my honestly desired goals.

I absolutely agree with one step at a time, and my very next goal is to achieve good scores on those exams (although I’m pretty sure they are just recorded as pass or not without the scores when accepted by the college)

By the way, will I have two few of completed “classes” by the time I submit the applications which is projected as December of 2008? Unless they simply look at my units and not list of classes I’ve taken, wouldn’t it look weird for me to only have taken around 5-6 classes.

Or do you usually get fall semester’s result by the time you apply for transfer? (in that case, I’ll probably have 9-10 classes)
