Realistic goals about transferring to Yale

Hello, I recently posted on the site that I am thinking about applying to Duke and UPenn for their PPE programs. I thought I wanted to add Columbia, but after further inquiry their economics/philosophy major would not suit me. I am adding Yale for its EPE program. This makes it three schools I am looking forward to applying to come next spring, spring of 2012. I currently have a 3.7 G.P.A and hail from the South. I have an ACT score of 28, which was taken with me not even wanting to go to college and barely caring. My track and field coach forced me to take it. However, now I have awakened this intellectual thirst which I would like maximized. I am a generalist. I love to learn everything. This is why I am applying to UPenn, Yale, and Duke because of their PPE programs, and quite simply, in Yale’s case, its deep and enriching humanities focus and program.

I will list some of my activities

Summer Student Assistant for the Office of the Dean

Oboe-player (my mom wanted me to become a band geek rather than a street hustler I guess haha)

I also plan on doing an Oxford overseas study abroad all my sophomore spring semester so I have to buckle down and get my transferring papers in order before I leave for the study abroad trip.

What are my chances Yale? Thanks!

At 2%, no one has a good chance at all. Typical transfer admitees appear to be very strong candidates as Freshman admits (i.e. top GPA & test scores, very unique contributor). They also tend to be the 4.0 type students at their current college.

They tend to have been admitted to Yale or peer schools already. An example would be an HYP admit who, instead attends their state school on full ride scholarship but decides to transfer. Hope this helps.

Hey, now I have added Pomona College to my list. I am not going to lie, Pomona College seems more inviting and genuine than the other three colleges I am wanting to apply to: UPenn, Duke, and Yale.

Pomona is a wonderful school. This interviewing session, my local Yale interviewing group lost a great applicant to Pomona’s early admit program. Of all those I interviewed this last year, this guy seemed to be the one stand out. Good luck to you in your Pomona app.

Just because Yale is difficult to get into as a transfer does not mean it isn’t an inviting school. Admitted students that attend Bulldog Days know that Yale is one of the most enthusiastic and welcoming schools out there. I still encourage you to apply because I’m sure your impressions will change if you visit :)
