Realistic Goals for Indiana Kid

Hello CCers. I’m trying to establish my list of schools to which I will apply, but I need some unbiased advice on how realistic my goals are.

Do I have a decent shot at Brown? I don’t have the time to simply send applications all over the place, so I want to feel like each school is worth my time. Do I have what it takes for Brown or its peer schools (also interested in Columbia and Penn).

I come from a smallish public High School in Indiana.

Stats:
4.0 unweighted GPA (4.6 unweighted)
most rigorous curriculum available (All 6 APs offered)
34 ACT
2190 SAT
Ranked 1st in class

ECs:
Many musical activities/competitions
Drum Major for marching band
Month long foreign exchange program
Eagle Scout
The usual NHS, clubs (a couple officer positions), volunteering, etc.

Essays and recommendations should be great.

I know admissions for top schools impossible to predict, but I just want to know if my application is worth it. Thanks!

I would it say you certainly should apply if Brown really interests you. Your Eagle scout honor, and the Drum Major position should help, as should being from Indiana, and your stats are good. Write a great essay (see many threads of advise here about that) and go for it. PS, Brown has arguably the most fun marching band of any college, and people who have been in it tend to stay friends (and are often very gung- ho alums) many years later.

You should apply if it is in your interest! However, if Brown is your number one choice, apply early!

Do you have any hooks?

No, I don’t really have any hooks. That’s why I was wary of applying. What I listed is really about all I have. Glad to see I have a chance, though.

It sounds like the biggest thing is to demonstrate interest and emphasize why Brown would be a good fit for me?

applying early shows your dedication to the school, so go for it!

Go for it. You’re as good a candidate as anyone else!
