Really, AOL, down again???

My kids have been ridiculing me for years about still using AOL. I need to transition to Gmail this summer after school is out, but I said that last year. This year I really need to make it happen. Who knows, maybe I’ll even give up my landline as well while I"m at it!

I have an AOL email, and I’ve never had one problem with it. I figured hackers and others left it alone because so few people really use it. We don’t do online banking or anything really secure through email that I can think of. I also have a gmail account, but rarely use it.

I still have a couple of AOL emails. My original one from paid dial up days got accidentally used by so many others with similar addresses that I gave up using it for almost everything - it gets all the classic spam still. My second one is the one I use for all accounts that need an email and for most family. My gmail was originally set up to communicate with DS and he’s still pretty much the only one who uses it.

I kind of like using AOL because it tricks people into thinking I’m not technologically savvy. I never did understand what’s so terrible about it anyway.

AOl wasn’t terrible- neither were party lines and Blackberrys. It’s just old technology, screams "not savvy), as you pointed out, and does not have enough security built into the platform. I used AOL for a long time. AOL and hotmail email addresses are often fatal for job applicants in any kind of serious corporate position.

For those of us who still use AOL email in some way (my Verizon email was taken over by AOL last year), are you getting a huge amount of spam lately? In the last week, the spam filter is missing an awful lot, and in the past rarely any spam got through to my in-box. So annoying!

I had my AOL account as my only non-work email for years. I finally got a gmail account a couple years ago, but I kep the AOL account for commercial emails (coupons, store sign-ups, etc). It is filled with spam, but things that aren’t spam seem to go to the spam folder!

Barbalot, no, I haven’t been getting much spam at all.

I got a little flurry of spam (maybe a dozen total in two days) on that original email but very little on my regular email.

@MomofWildChild

I don’t do anything via AOL like banking or purchasing anything. It’s just email.

But your contact lists and anything in the email is not as secure. Also increases the risk of a hack into your whole computer.

My husband has so much security on my computer that it’s a miracle i can even use it.

I’ve had more issues with Google. Like if I use a google calendar for something…and email that to other users…those other users get a email, from Google asking THEM to use google calendar.

Don’t need that either. Just got three of those today. Lovely…from friends sending me links to various google calendars.

My husband and I both still use our AOL accounts. I have a Gmail account as well but frankly I prefer the AOL interface over Gmail. My husband is not tech savvy so changing over to something else will put ME over the edge because he will drive me nuts. I do get a lot of spam but just downloaded the Chuck app which helps me sort through it all. We don’t use any kind of calendar function via email so that is not a deal breaker for us.

Anyone having trouble loading AOL mamail today?

It was acting wonky,

Not working at all for me. Ugh.

Can’t sign in this afternoon

Yes, it’s down.

If you go to the AOL Mail facebook page, people are marching with pitchforks. If my mail starts acting weird, I go there or down detector.

Back up here…

I have AOL, have had no trouble lately. Have a gmail for business use, but it forwards to my AOL so I don’t have to check both. I like the AOL user interface better. Gmail is just wonky with its threads, etc. I just consider my AOL to be retro.

Finally having trouble with AOL mail here, most of the day.
