Really, AOL, down again???

I have several email addresses, but still have my dinosaur aol for some old files and junk stuff. And, for the second time in a few weeks, its down again. Maybe it would be easier to move those files, but really, I shouldn’t have to. Verizon- get it together.

Anyone else still have a dinosaur aol account? what about yahoo, mindspring, hotmail, etc? I never use the ISP emails (AT&T, comcast, etc) as they make it difficult to transfer if you change ISPs. But really, aol, get it together!

I use my aol email when things require I give an email. I haven’t been able to get in, maybe that’s why.

Huh, I’m not having any issues with my aol email, thank goodness.

I still use AOL for my personal email. Mine is working fine. Sorry!

I know a lot of people are reluctant to abandon AOL, but I will reiterate that every IT security presentation I’ve heard in my IT security legal work (by FBI etc) emphasizes that AOL is simply a relic and is not secure compared to the other platforms. The recommendation is always to get off of AOL for email. Besides that, it should never be used professionally because it screams “not up to date with technology”. Don’t shoot the messenger here - but this is the way it is.

Funny- yahoo has been hacked, now saks and L&T, equifax, etc, but the only aol issues I am aware of (big caveat) are the occasional hacked address that sends out obvious spam ) and that seems to happen more to yahoo).

AOL is still a thing?

Verizon converted their email to AOL last year and it’s worked fairly well for me, but there have been a few frustrating outages. You still use the Verizon domain name, though.

I have two or three old AOL accounts that I haven’t checked in over a year. Maybe this thread will spur me to do so.

I still mainly use my original email address which is AOL. I don’t use aol as a browser. I’ve had no problem getting my mail but I’ve noticed a huge increase in spam email getting through. I have a gmail account but I’ve just been lazy and haven’t made the total switch.

It’s platform does not have the security features of the other platforms. Bank account information and other personal information is not as secure.

I only use AOL for my personal original email, but nothing else on AOL (don’t use browser).

Still have my original aol email account, but only use it for emails I don’t want clogging up my regular email account.

We have recently weaned my 80somethibg parents from their aol email accounts.

I still have one and use it for unimportant things.

I am embarrassed to admit I still have my old email account. My daughter laughs at it. But I only use the account when I have to register for something because I don’t want all the sales emails going to my main gmail account. So Nordstrom, Groupon, Lowe’s, Pizza Parlors, Trip Advisor, DSW, etc. can just knock themselves out sending Daily sales announcement emails all they want.

Nothing important or secure happens in that account.

Dont know anyone who stil uses AOL desktop, especially since they charge for it. But rats, I moved a lot of stuff from yahoo to aol as my junk email and did do online shopping with that address. But, use chrome as my browser. Hope that is safe…er.

I still use my aol email account. It is easy to miss an email because there is so much spam in there. To make things worse, frequently real email ends up in the spam folder. My gmail is much cleaner. I use that for more important stuff, but all my gmail gets automatically forwarded to my aol email account so I see it there too. And my email address is 1st letter of my first name, first letter of my middle name, followed by first 4 letters of my last name @aol.com Remember that naming convention?

I use AOL as my primary email account, and 98% of my spam winds up in my spam folder. Rarely, a real email winds up in the spam folder, but I check the spam folder every day or so, so it’s not a big problem. I also use the AOL calendar to keep track of everything, and I have had problems with that. Occasionally it doesn’t load. Also, I can’t get the calendar on my Android phone. AOL says it’s not possible. I’d like to change to the Gmail calendar but I want to keep both my email and my calendar together. And it would be really hard to change email addresses!

Yes, that’s my main problem. I can’t imagine changing email addresses at this point. I’ve never had any problem with AOL, so I will stick with it. I have a good enough reputation professionally that I don’t really care what people think of my .aol address. DH has had more trouble with his maine.rr.com account than I ever have.
