<p>Heathbb: I believe a person should always go after their dreams but you have to be realistic and know that for the majority of schools you want to apply to, very few of those students waited as long as you did to decide to work hard and apply themselves in high school. It is great that you have had this great awakening and all, and not to say you won’t be able to accomplish your goals, but you might need to start out in a more realistic college and work hard for 2 years and show that you are really serious about academics and that have matured before you try to transfer to a more competitive college. College admissions people only care about the bottom line…GPA, test scores, essay, and quality of EC’s and they will also wonder why you didn’t take more challenging classes. Good luck.</p>

<p>I say u have good chances at some of those, particularly in GA Tech, Emory, Vandy, NYU.
The others are big reaches but still possiblities because of ur SAT scores.</p>
<p>I would also reccommend that u select several schools were u will definately get in just in case all reject u because of ur killer gpa. It can happen especially when ur applying to top 25 colleges. read other threads and u will see wat I mean. </p>

American, GWU, BU, UM (Fl), Penn State, and other schools along those lines (Top 50). Id say select two just in case the worst happens which with the schools ur looking at and ur killer gpa it could happen.</p>
<p>One thing that I don’t understand is why you say that you have become serious about academics this year… yet your junior year GPA is the lowest. That’s a DOWNward curve, and it won’t prove to colleges that you underwent a transformation this year. If you start working harder and getting better grades senior year, it won’t seem as if you want to improve YOURSELF, it will only seem as if you’re panicking because of college admissions (that you’re only working to boost your GPA right before admissions). I don’t want to seem very critical… you seem like a genuine person, but your claims aren’t showing up in your junior year G.P.A.</p>
<p>I can see that you’re truly passionate about learning and receiving a good education… but there are many applicants to “your” schools that have that same passion… but also the G.P.A. to back it up.</p>
<p>I think that you should apply to Princeton. The chances of you getting in are, I’ll admit, slim, but you might as well try. Include Emory, GA Tech, and NYU, too… as for the others, eliminate most of them, because you most likely won’t get in. If there’s one that you love as much as Princeton, include it, but I’d suggest looking at more realistic choices and adding more safeties.</p>
<p>If you don’t get into Princeton or another school that you really like, WORK EXTREMELY HARD at your new college! Actually demonstrate everything that you’ve been telling us. If you do very well, you may be able to transfer (or go to one of the other colleges for grad school). Chances are, though, you’ll end up loving the college you attend =)</p>
<p>And plus, if you think a 95 in Trig is a big accomplishment, then Princeton might not be up your alley.</p>

<p>Anyways this year is very demanding.</p>

<p>I am also engaged in an internship into the Health Field, which will make me a certified asst. nurse, and Patient Care Therapist by the end of the (school) year.</p>
<p>Also this year I am participating in SGA, and HOSA (Health Occupations of America)</p>
<p>I am currently a Cabinet Member of SGA, due to me losing my race for Senior Class President, and I am Vice President of HOSA.</p>
<p>I am also taking unofficial tutoring lessons with someone at GA-Tech (who also is from pakistan…surprise!), and although i did not ask him about it, he told me to apply to GA-Tech because i would have a good chance of getting in.</p>
<p>So taking these extras into consideration, what do you think about my chances now?</p>
<p>P.S. My goal is to get into the medical field, and become a physician. I am committed on that, and I will try to do as many things which will prepare me for that.</p>

<p>Your coursework is not easy, but it is not difficult either, especially compared to your competition. Sorry, no chance. What is your class rank?</p>
<p>You can get into the medical field without attending a top 25 school. It seems like you are considering them for the prestige; but also consider, how comfortable will you be in a school where you are completely outclassed academically?</p>

<p>2.7 gpa? Dude, I’m really sorry to say but you have no chance whatsoever in those colleges. I’m not trying to bring you down since I am not even applying to Princeton.</p>
<p>After 4 months, I hope you have a new list that does not include ANY of the colleges you mentioned in your first post.</p>
<p>The truth is, there are many, many much more qualified kids for all of the schools that you mentioned in your original post.</p>
<p>Perhaps many are not as interesting of a person as you, and I bet that very few have been through what you have been through, but that will still only get you so far.</p>
<p>You shouldn’t place so much emphasis on your undergraduate school if you plan on going into medicine. It would be better for you to go to a decent, but not outstanding school, working amazingly hard for 4 years, and then transferring to a top-notch med school, than doing subpar in a Ivy-level school for your undergrad.</p>
<p>That being said, apply to wherever you want, but be very ready to be severely disappointed if you plan on being accepted by any of the schools on your original list.</p>
<p>^ I agree. I think its shows an immense sense of resilience of how despite all your hardships, you are striving to pursue your passion in the sciences. Make sure you let that shine through in your essays. But at the same time, the sad truth is that many colleges do focus a lot on GPA. If you really want to go into medicine, go to a lesser known college like the previously mentioned ones on this post, work your butt of in undergrad, and then go on to pursue your passion in medical school.
