really frustrated

Im currently taking trigonometry rightnow. I want to go onto CAL BC next year, but my math department director recommended me to take AB. At my skool, you cannot take BC after taking AB. So what should i do?

you are suppose to take calc AB before BC. If you are a junior, I would suggest that you do AB for your senior year, because you really don’t have an option. however, you can study calc bc by yourself. however, at the end of the year, the ap exams for AB and BC are at the same time, so you have to make a choice anyways. I would just study up BC over the summer if you really want to, and just be really impressive in college by learning/reviewing calc fast!

Talk to the person who made the recommendation and find out why it was made.

Recommendations can be changed through face-to-face meetings.

You should take either AB or BC, but not both courses.

Different schools structure their AB courses and BC courses. At some schools, the AB course is directly before the BC course (and typically, the BC course contains additional materials that goes above and beyond what is actually the BC exam). In other schools, you take the AB course or the BC course, but not both (the BC course is typically the same as the AB course, with a few added topics and a higher speed). To the original poster, it sounds like your school is the second type.

BigIs’s advice is spot on. You really do need to determine why the recommendation was made the way it was. Once you determine this, you can then decide to follow the director’s advice, or you can attempt to demonstrate why your director is mistaken.

Honestly, your trigonometry teacher, though, in conjunction with your math department chair, is almost always going to give the most realistic assessments of what you can and cannot do. There are times when teachers are mistaken, but the number of times that the teachers are mistaken is probably far outweighed by the number of times when they’ve got it right.

thank you for all ur advices.
before the skool ends, we took the calculus readiness. so i guess i did bad on it, tats why they put me into ab.
And i heard that the calculus teacher at my school isnt tat great.
is it possible to self study BC while taking the AB class?

Yes it is, but you must do it after all of the material has been covered in AB. If your teacher gives some time for review at the end of the year, you can self-study the BC topics then.

ok… thx so much
