Really high college stats but with some low grades

Hi
I am a rising sophomore thinking of starting my transfer application the fall semester after the summer.
I have a few problems hope that you people can answer. XD

1) During the very first quarter of my freshmen, I got a C+ on this class called Rhetoric and Composition. It’s not because my English sucks but rather that I wasn’t really used to follow the standard of different kinds of writing (that is, the format of the bibliography, how to write the footnotes, etc etc), and also this was during the first semester of my college life when I wasn’t used to it yet academically. However, besides this C+, I have straight A’s in the subsequent semesters. Do I need to explain this to the admission office in some way? I have a really high TOEFL, by the way.

2) I did IB Diploma during my high school and received good grades except for my Extended Essay where I got an E (My Theory of Knowledge was A btw). The reason for this was that I had a grudge with my high school’s IB coordinator and also I handed in my Essay one day passed the deadline, so he basically didn’t send my complete essay in, just my brief abstract, thus resulting in a nearly failing grade. Do I have to explain this too?

Please help

thanks

Any one please help???

1) That doesn’t sound serious at all. If you really want to you can include a brief explanation of your C+ but try not to sound like you’re making excuses. I would just leave it because your GPA speaks louder than that C, and they’ll probably assume it was a bad teacher.

2) You got an E on your essay?? That’s neat haha. I don’t know why you would explain that, either. You sound like a really good student and 1 C + 1 bad essay isn’t going to change anyone’s mind.
