Here. Last year, I had a A in four of five courses and a B in the other one. I was not a full time student. This year I enrolled fulltime and based on my grades from last year, I got a invitation to the PTK honors society. Now what I am about to say is related to that but there is another issue.
I have As currently in two courses but Bs in two others. That is concerning me. I have not had a single A on a exam or lab exam in Biology and recently got a C on a lab report because it was the first time I wrote such a thing. I have written essays but not lab reports. I got no sample papers on it.
Also, in macroeconomics I am off to a poor start getting a 78 and 84 on the first two tests. And it was because of misinterpreting a demand and supply graph and not getting no such free lunch right and getting the ranking wrong on the six countries in GDP. I could use my notes on these tests and the text but I didn’t and if I did I would have gotten a 98 on the last one. I hope I can salvage this course and finish with an A with three tests remaining.
Biology is my issue, and if I don’t get a A on my next exam I am considering dropping the class. It’s a online class so that’s one hurdle and it is 101.
I have three questions
1.Will my GPA so far for this year be looked at if I pay to join the PTK and I could be revoked?
2.Will a C in Biology hurt my overall prospects if my grades are good everywhere else? (it is currently a B)
3. If I drop the course, that means I am not fulltime. Will that also hurt my PTK offer?
This is not just about PTK it is also about how my grades may be needed to override my lack of 60 credits for university transfer in the Associate in Arts I am taking.
It is probably impossible for strangers to really know what you should do. My opinion: I think that you need to work very hard and do the best that you can. University is hard. Schools will be most impressed if you work hard and manage to pull off a decent grade in a difficult situation. Most university graduates can probably look back to several cases where we did just that. It doesn’t sound to me like you are in enough trouble to give up on any of your classes.
I didn’t think I was supposed to, but I guess I should have asked the instructor that earlier since the tests are taken online anywhere we want to take them. Also I took the test in a computer lab that has surveillance. So I guess I played it safe. I have a macro test tomorrow and I intend to use the notes this time.
Wow, dropping a course if you don’t get an A? College isn’t supposed to be easy. If you drop every course you might not get an A in, you are going to spend a long time getting your degree.
You need to be more resilient. I don’t think that you are doing that badly. Just study harder and smarter and do the best you can. You don’t need to drop any courses.
Q) who cares about PTK? A) Nobody but PTK.
Focusing on anything but mastering the material is distracting you and hurting you. Pick up your game in your current courses. What will be will be.
I think you’re worrying too much about being part of PTK. At the end of the day, if you’re planning on enrolling in a 4-year university later on, as long as you do well in the classes that are associated with your intended major, you’ll have a good shot at getting in. Plus, STEM classes in general are pretty difficult, so don’t be too discouraged cause of that.
However, I do have a question about your macro class. What exactly type of macro class are you taking? Because in all my experience, I’ve never had a macro class talk about financing theory (referencing the free lunch thing you’re talking about).
Anyways, good luck with the rest of your year. Don’t stress out too much about 1 or 2 mediocre grades, you’ll be fine.
Maco 210, the free lunch thing is regarding opportunity costs.
I got a 87 on the most recent test because the instructor screwed up on a question and I’m not able to get those three points. Otherwise I would have gotten a 90 as I only missed one question genuinely and did not click on all that apply on another one. This is why I hate online testing.
So he did fix that test question and gave us our three points for missing it. I did horrible on the next test but then so did everyone else and he ended making a lot of them bonuses. I got a great final and managed to finish the course with an A.
Biology I just accepted the B and moved on. I got on the Dean’s List on top of being part of the PTK.
I doubt they will revoke you for dropping grades slightly and honestly that doesn’t matter that much in the long run. Focus on finishing your degree and being a full time student, not PTK or not getting straight A’s.
