Reapplicat or 10th?

For the Prep School group… I had a question and I would love different opinions… I am applying to schools such as
Exeter
Andover
Milton
Choate
Hotchkiss
Lawrenceville
Pds
Peddie
Taft
Deerfield
St Pauls…
And I was wondering if it was easier to get in as a 9th grade reapplicant or a 10th grader (I am currently in 9th) and have grades of A+, A, A-, and 1 B+… And a 93% SSAT for 9th… Reapplicant or 10th???

I would suggest applying as a repeat 9th. In my opinion, its easier to fit in socially, and adjust academically. Many boarding schools usually have pass fail for the first trimester which will allow you to get a feel for the school and of what they expect from you. However it is your decision, you should listen to what your heart is telling you because that’s probably the right answer

@ajsmiles12 Do you know if it’s harder to get into one grade than another?

It can be easier to get into 10th or 11th. Less competition. If you can pinpoint something you bring to the table that the school may be lacking in EC s it may help you stand out

@Center I am a national pf debater… Won 3 national Top 10 Speaker Awards as well as 1 national tourney

Does that count?

Absolutely. I hope you have written the appropriate debate faculty and communicated your intent to participate and your qualifications.

Off topic but blue tooth- When I was applying I actually was a top 8 finalist in congressional debate at the national level! AOs seem to be quite impre

ssed by it make sure to get a recommendation letter from your debate coach!!

^ I would also maybe bring it up in your interviews or application that you would love to make major contributions to each school’s debate teams in PF. I’d also contact the debate coaches of each school and express your interest.

Ok I have already done all of that, but I was wondering if it was easier to get into 9th as a repeat or 10th for the schools I am applying for…

It’s sort of a toss-up. For 9th grade, there way more applicants for more spots than they have in 10th, but there’s less applicants for 10th for a smaller amount of spots. It’s competitive either way. I guess it just depends on what you prefer. I’ll try to look for a previous thread to help you out. Have you asked your admissions officer?

Forgot to mention this, but there’s also the consideration of “campus life” when deciding whether to apply for 9th repeat or 10th.

For 9th repeat, it could be easier to integrate into the BS community and adjust since you’ll be starting at the beginning and as a freshman with all four years, as opposed to 10th grade.

On the flip side, if you apply for 9th repeat, you would be in a class with peers who are 1-2 years younger than you, so there’s also the maturity factor.

I have been told by more than one AO that more applicants are accepted for 10th than 9th.

Thanks @thelittleswimmer If you find a thread… Make sure to post it or dm about it

@itcannotbetrue Which AO (from what school)

@thelittleswimmer I asked the AO, but they didn’t give me a definite answer
