Hi, My son applied to the academy for the class of 2010 but didn’t get in, he’s now situated in college on a NROTC scholarship, but is starting to think he might want to reapply again. Is the process as time comsuming as the first time, or how does it work. Any pros and cons on applying once you’ve started college. Thanks

I believe it is the same process as the first time around, unless you are from NAPS or the foundation program.

Essentially, your son will need to submit another application as before. His DODMERB should be good, but you will need to check the date of his first exam (they are good for 2 years)- so that may not need to be repeated.

Nominations: your son will need to reapply. Call your moc- some may still have your son’s application on file from the previous year- others may have discarded it- so check before your son resubmits everything again.

BGO interview: will vary by BGO. Have your son make contact and let them know if his intent.

Best of luck…from what has been posted by the USNA over the past several years, as many as 1/3 of the incoming class has at least one year of post-high-school work behind them (PG year or a year or two of college)…

other than “time,” not sure what other cons might be out there if the USNA is where he wants to be!
