what are good reasons for an appeal?

Mistakes in documentation (errors in transcripts, scores) would be one.

IF a school accepts appeals, then it should be to correct mistakes (as listed above) or to present new information that would cause the admissions office to look at your application differently. That could be things like a previously undisclosed learning disability, illness, or hardship, an explanation not previously offered for gpa problems, or some other MAJOR life event that you feel would propel the college to rethink their decision. Keep in mind though, that they have already sent our acceptances by the time you get rejected and, depending on their expected yield, may not have the room to admit another student regardless of new information. Good luck wherever you end up.
