What are the other possible reasons for a recruited athlete to be rejected from ED besides grades?
too low SAT /ACT tests numbers.
Sorry,I didn’t make it clear. Besides anything academic?
If your application wasn’t tipped by the coach-i.e.- your file was tagged as the student he HAD to have during the ED round, then he wanted someone more than you.
IF you have top grades you may still have a chance in the regular admissions round.
Any other reasons on top of that^?
other student athletes had what the coach wanted/ needed.
So if one has top grades and is coach’s top recruit, it should be a winning case, right?
1 reason - "Miscommunication" between coach and player.
A lot of recruits “hear what they want to hear” during the recruiting process.
They misjudge the real level of support they are getting from the coach.
Sometimes this is the coaches fault, but a lot of times the player failed to ask the right questions.
it shouldn’t be act/sat scores. that should have been cleared in pre-read.
@kchendds Can you email the coach and ask? Were you rejected and not deferred? Sorry it happened.
@OspreyCV22 Oh it didn’t happen. We are still waiting for the ED decision and the mail should be here early next week. D is being a worry wart and I was just curious to find out if it is possible to fail this.
At a minimum, your ED application is considered the same way as any other student. If you get a coach’s tip it can only help.
In other words, a rejection will be based in the same reasoning any other rejection would be based - a holistic review of the application didn’t measure up to the other applicants and/or the colleges needs.
@Dreadpirit What if the applicant has the top 25% stats the college has and good rec letters plus is the coach’s top recruit?
^^HOLISTIC mean that MANY factors are used in making admissions decisions.
State the applicant is from, Legacy status, race, sex, rank, etc, etc.
Admissions decisions are not formulaic , ie If>then
There could be recruited athletes in other sports that the college decides it wants more .
Honestly, you and kid need to calm down. Kid has not been rejected. If kid is actually coach’s top recruit, you are probably (I can’t say certainly) worrying about something that is unlikely to happen. There are 50,000 families out there that would like to have your problem. Take a deep breath and relax.
She is accepted. Thank you for all your advice and comments!
Congratulations!
@needscaffeine Thanks!
