Still haven’t received financial aid info. There was miscommunication within my family, thought the 2005 tax returns were sent but they really weren’t. I’m sending them ASAP tonight, so hopefully I can find out kinda soon.

I actually forgot to send in the 2005 tax returns before the deadline :D.

I have to send the 2006 tax returns with all W-2 forms.

I guess 2005 was just for estimating the financial aid package. That way, Boston College can fix any updated information with the 2006 tax returns.

And I am surprised that you are sending yours. Have you sent the ones for 2006 yet? Or are you sending both at the same time?

BC a “huge” party school? Well…In some ways yes. Depends on what you consider huge. Students go through a considerable amount of work to try to acquire alcohol and a majority of students party thurs - sun usually every weekend. Vomit is a fixture usually every friday and saturday night in our floor bathroom (it often isn’t cleaned up until hours if not days later). Most of my acquaintances are more consumed with finding ways to get alcohol then they are with doing their homework and studying. As someone who didn’t party much before coming to BC, I would consider it a “huge” party school, but then again, I have nothing really to compare it to. Simply put, there is a large amount of pressure to drink at BC, there are some alternatives, but I find it difficult to avoid the prevalent party scene.

Those are 2 ringing endorsements for BC! Why in the world does this school warrant 32,000 applicants? I know it’s in Boston, but I just don’t understand why it is so hot. It’s just not that great a school. By the way, their Admissions Dept. seems to be really poorly managed as opposed to many of the other schools. Although my son was not accepted there, this is not sour grapes on my part. He was also declined at Notre Dame and UVA and their Admissions Depts. were excellent. Very responsive, polite and seemed to have their act together! Maybe BC is just overwhelmed by the sheer number of applicants, but I doubt it!

Their financial stinginess (and apparent lack of caring about this) really scares me. My family can manage, but just barely. I’m really scared they’ll screw me over next year when my brother enters college, and I worry what would happen if my financial status changed for the worse.

They just really aren’t making me feel secure in my decision AT ALL financially.

My FA package is absolutely horrible from them…worse than USC, ND and GU…thus just like 19382 ^^ they dont make me feel secure in going there at all financially…thus i won’t be there =]

I disagree with the posters who talk about the partying at BC.

Our dorms have very clean bathrooms compared to other schools and they are cleaned every morning, including on weekends. Yes, sometimes there is puke on the floor of the bathrooms for our halls, but it’s cleaned up by the time most students roll out of bed. You can’t expect the vomit to be cleaned up instantly unless students take it upon themselves. Many of my friends who have visited have also mention how clean the dorms at BC are compared to their own, and I agree with them. Yes, some of the dorms have trash cans in the hall, and those trash cans can get kicked over by druken partiers, but other than that the hallways and the rest of the dorms are kept clean. Besides, once you get out of freshman and possibly sophmore housing, you get to clean your own bathrooms so its not a big deal.

The two posters talk about how partying is a constant at BC, but again that’s not true for everyone. Some people do party Thursday through Sunday, but they are not the majority. Fridays and Saturday nights are the times with the most partying, as people often have tests and classes on Fridays and Mondays. Almost every person I know does work, and does a lot of work, and uses the weekends as a way to blow off steam.

But I have to agree, BC does not give out good financial aid packages.

19382: I guess if your parents can afford $48K/yr. don’t feel guilty. Just don’t let them down by being distracted with parties, etc. I wrote on another post how BC made us jump thru hoops to verify/back-up some info that was on our tax return (2005, not 2006 return) when no other school did. D didn’t receive any money while a couple of much higher ranked schools (Wash U and Carleton) offered her generous amount of merit money. These are schools that have a huge endowment and use it, in my opinion, to attract kids they feel are great additions to their school. As a mother, why would I want to subject my D to BC knowing that they are playing that “admit/deny” game? Admtting you and then making it impossible for you to attend by not offering you any fin. aid. I could send D there and pay full freight, however, I decided not to due to the games they play (not to mention that it would stretch us financially a bit). I have another D that will be in college in two years and I will definitley not encourage her to apply to BC. In fact, if I won the lottery and money was not an issue, I still wouldn’t allow my kids to apply there. What do they do with their huge endowment?

Keep in mind that admissions is very busy. Everyone I’ve dealth with there has been EXTREMELY polite and helpful, the only problem is that it may take awhile to get somebody on the phone. Remember that BC recently received 28,000 aps compared to ND’s 13,000. Just something to think about.

Let’s be honest about partying…this is college, and college students seem to like to have a good time on the weekends (BC is no exception). There are no frats or sororities here, which may even make it seem like LESS of a party school than many other state schools or schools with frats. Imagine that! In all seriousness, there is plenty of partying (freshman dorms, upperclassmen’s suites, and off campus houses), but it is not out of control or crazy in comparison to any other school which i’ve visited on teh weekends. In addition, if partying isn’t your thing, Boston is right next to you–check it out

BC had the reputation of being the UMass Amherst of Boston. If you’re familiar with New England, you’ll catch my drift.

It’s also a beautiful school, and they have alcohol/drug/smoke-free dorms, if that helps.

I find it a bit unfair to compare schools by reputation versus experience. As the cliches go, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, don’t knock it 'til you try it, and you get what you put into it. Everyone’s opinions are different. Who knows, you may end up loving the school you thought you’d hate. Go with your heart instead of suppositions, I guess.
