Reasons why you'll be rejected

It’s less than 14 days until decisions are mailed, so I thought we could reflect on why we may feel pessimistic about our decisions.

I’ll start… FRESHMAN GRADES.

Extracurriculars- lacking a bit and generic.

Being from a rural area of a Red State and being an FFA officer for two years

Too many amazing applicants, 2220 sat

You used the phrase “reasons why” in your essay.

bmanbs2, red state as in a Republican one?

^ Yes. It’s likely a deal killer but one can dream.

^You realize that there are tons of Republicans at Harvard, right?..

^ not rural republicans. You’re thinking of Wall Street top 1/10% corporate Republicans. I’m not republican anyway. I just happen to be from a rural area of a red state and was active in FFA; two things that do not look attractive on an application to an urban private university.

^ o_O

two Bs frosh year

woeishe, I don’t think that’s going to affect your app at all.

Also, I don’t think interviewers would ask what party you are… at least mine didn’t.

My supplemental essay may not be what they’re looking for (it wasn’t a narrative), my transcript came in over two weeks late, I got two Bs last semester, they have my ACT from 10th grade that I didn’t report on the CommonApp.

I have met literally four or five different FFA officers from rural red states. bmanbs2, you’re not disqualified.

In the few days before I got accepted, these were the worries I preoccupied myself with:

SATs too low. SAT IIs way too low. Grades too low (GPA, average, whatever.) Low Bs from sophomore year would be disastrous. Didn’t really do any extracurriculars for a year. Wasn’t a legacy. Wasn’t an athlete. Wasn’t overly diversified. Was too diversified. Wouldn’t fit in. First person from school in too long. No APs. No IBs. Not enough arts supplement. Essays too offbeat. Sounded like an *******. Recommendations insufficient. Etcetera.

IT’S GOING TO BE FINE! :)

Test scores, 89 unweighted in a class Junior Year :-(

I’m not sure if you’re just misinformed or if you’ve constructed in advance an excuse for being rejected that doesn’t leave you culpable.

I got a 2230 SAT.
I’m white.
My parents went to college, but not Harvard.
I’m in the top 1% of my class, but not #1.
My counselor has no idea who I am and probably wrote a terrible rec.
:)

^^Sound to me like the latter. If anything, his state might be underrepresented and help his cause.

Essay and SAT IIs…

@Ivystriver2 same here! Oh and my state has tons and tons of applicants.

NO supplement essay.
