Hey, on the information page about my engineering scholarship, it said that I should notify them by a certain day if I don’t plan to accept the money, so that they can reassign it to “another deserving student”. I think that’s the procedure for all of the scholarships, so if, say, scholarships went unclaimed on the deadline day, how would they be distributed? Are the applicants reevaluated or are the scholarships just given to other kids who haven’t received any? Any information about this? Cause I’m kind of curious as to whether there might be a chance that I’ll receive more grant money after May.

Just to be clear, Grants and Scholarships are 2 different things. Grants are typically need-based (although many also have a merit component) and scholarships are generally awarded by merit (although some have a need requirement).

State schools cannot award Texas-funded grants at this time because the Tx legislature is considering making major changes to the grant funding, including discontinuing the Texas Excellence Grants for incoming freshmen.

“Unclaimed” scholarships will be re-awarded by scholarship committees to the next eligible student based on the original applications/requirements. Some will be offered in June and even later.

It would be wise to organize your finances with the assumption that you will not receive any more scholarships though.
