Rec Letter dilemma?

I’m having trouble figuring out who I should choose to write my humanities LOR. One choice is an English professor who I took a class with one year ago and who probably doesn’t remember me at all, while the other choice is a foreign language class grad student from this semester who I know likes me, but I’d have to get the professor to cosign it (the professor doesn’t interact with us at all, she just runs the program).

I’m just wondering is it better to have the english professor, who has seniority, write me what might be a generic letter, or just have a cosigned letter from the grad student ( even though I already have another cosigned LOR from a science prof. too).

Was the English class a small discussion class or a large lecture?

If it was a small discussion class, you might try contacting the prof in person to gauge how well she remembers you before you decide who to ask. Remind her what class you took from her, your grade and maybe bring a paper you’d submitted for the class to jog her memory. If she offers positive feedback (Yes, i remember you and how you were especially persuasive in your defense of Chaucer’s feminism….), then ask her. Otherwise–go with the grad student TA. (I’m assuming the grad student will write you a strong, positive rec?)

Thanks, ya I’ll ask the english prof if he remembers me first.
But you don’t think it’s a bad idea to have more than one cosigned LOR?
