Is it ever a good idea to request a rec letter from a teacher from sophomore year? She is still working with my daughter this year who is a junior on the school literary magazine, but she is not officially a teacher for her this year. She absolutely loved her last year and would probably write her the most fantastic and passionate letter about her abilities, etc.

I’m not sure about the CommonApp, but I’ve seen some other applications that specifically say “from junior or senior year” when it comes to teacher recs. So check the applications carefully for that kind of thing.

Is there a possibility that your daughter will have this teacher next year?

I got in one of my schools with a Sophomore religion teacher’s letter, XD
But she was the leader of one of my biggest service projects, with a select group of students.

Sounds like a similar situation. It kind of depends on the school, but if your daughter’s teacher can say (positive) things that any other teacher couldn’t I would have her write the letter
Best wishes for your daughter’s college choice :)
