Rec Letter from Engineering Teacher

Hi, so I plan on getting recs from 1 STEM teacher and 1 non STEM teacher. A lot of the time colleges say the teachers should teach a “core subject” for instance Princeton says “The subjects should be in core academic areas, such as English, language, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences or math.”

Will most schools be fine with an Honors Engineering PLTW course teacher for my STEM rec or does that not count as a core academic area? My core science & math teachers don’t really know me too well.

Engineering was not considered a core class at my D’s HS and students were advised to ask their math or science teachers for STEM recommendations.

Same - my kids’ HS did not consider engineering a core course, but my S23 asked a HS engineering teacher to write a 3rd letter for him.

I’d suggest that OP get two from core areas and the engineering letter as a 3rd. When you apply, you can look at what each college wants and then choose which letters to send. Some colleges allow more than two LORs and some do not.
