Received my Eli account, what does this mean?

Received an email for my Eli account today after submitting my app 9 days ago. I’m a recruited athlete if it makes a difference, but I was just curious if this meant that admissions was reviewing my application/had opened my “file” to begin reviewing (for a likely letter) or if it is an automated response for having submitted the app. The website claims that they’ve received all of my app components, so can I assume they’ve begun to review the app?

Thanks

All 30,000+ applicants receive an Eli Account after submitting their application to Yale. It’s like a store receipt. Yale now has all your application materials and your file is under review: http://admissions.yale.edu/eli-accounts</a>

You will need this account to access your decision when it comes out. Also, information for admitted students can be accessed this way later on.

Ok, thank you. I understood that everyone gets one but I just wasn’t sure if it was a response to my File being under review or if it were simply an automated verification that they received my app

It is automatic. Does not mean your file is also under review though I doubt it - though I don’t know much about the process for athletes.

The process for recruited athletes is slightly different than for other early applicants. And you bring up an interesting question. Several years ago, when none of HYP had an early cycle, savvy athletes would apply VERY early, early enough to get a likely letter before other schools’ early application deadlines. That way, if no LL was forthcoming, they still had other early options. These colleges understood they needed to get their LLs out asap, and they did. My son, for example, had his LL in October. Now, with HYPS all offering non binding early acceptances, the game has changed a little. A top recruit “could” apply SCEA very early, but tell the coach that if a LL didn’t come by, say, October 15, then the applicant would switch the application to RD and apply early somewhere else.

Sorry for the overly long response. It’s just that it’s complicated and I tend to over explain.

Short answer: they wouldn’t have asked you to apply early if you’re pre-read didn’t look good. You’re probably fine, but it’s possible they don’t bother sending you a LL, and you still get an early acceptance.

Good luck.

I got one today as well, though I was surprised how quickly I got the email. The one problem I encountered, however, was that even though I was able to successfully activate the account, I am currently unable to login, which is super weird :/
