Recent commercials -- winners and losers (subjective)

<p>I like the dry and oh soo hip Venza commercials.
I also ADORE the ones with the talking turtles!</p>

<p>I love the Subaru commercial with the Pogues song and the three little boys playing hockey. The mom looks so real.</p>

<p>I also like the Chrysler ads with the tag line Imported from Detroit – I really liked the Super Bowl one with Enimem.</p>

Ditto with me. I think a lot of dads can identify with this.</p>

<p>I can’t think of another commercial I like but there are zillions I dislike. Luckily I’m quick with the mute button.</p>

<p>Particularly annoying -

  • Any furniture store commercial
  • The Progressive insurance commercials with the bump-haired lady in the white background. Hint to Progressive - it’s getting very old and it’s time to change it, completely.
  • Any commercial that tries to be clever. Hint - it’s not clever and after one time it’s particularly repetitive and annoying.
  • Any commercial with sound effects.
  • Any commercial hawking ‘free stuff’ as long as you have medicare (motorized scooters, etc.).</p>

<p>I don’t get the hamster ads. Had a 5 minute one in the movie theater last week before ‘Moneyball’. How do hamsters sell cars?</p>

<p>I love the hamster ads. Saw the theater version last week. I see the cars (Kia Soul) driving all over our town. I’m convinced the hamsters have boosted sales.</p>

<p>I agree the Prius people one is creepy. I love the Geico woodchuck one - it makes me laugh every time. “Hey you dang woodchucks, quit chucking my wood!”</p>

<p>I absolutely hate the Huggies diaper commercial featuring cartoon babies filling their diapers in competition to the tune of that old hip-hop song “Whoomp—There It Is!” I mean, what were they thinking?! It’s so disgusting!</p>

<p>I’m amused by the Ally Bank “Just Accept It” commercial.</p>

<p>Don’t like Swiffer–though my D tells me that her teacher’s friend plays one of Swiffer’s pickups. . .</p>

<p>Flo/Progressive is getting old, but I thought the one with the guy fantasizing about going camping with Flo was funny.</p>

<p>Prius people are creepy.</p>

<p>Absolute worst: Our local commercial for “Midwest Hemorrhoid Treatment Centers–Don’t Suffer in Silence”–sung to a catchy tune. Or any of these: “Have you suffered X complication after X medical treatment?–call the Law firm of Smith, Smith and Jones at 1-800-SuYrDoc today!”
Unbearable: Viagra and friends/feminine itching/tampons/personal lubricants/condoms/birth control–TMI
Ought to be illegal: saw an ad for an “ED aid”–vacuum pump contraption–“Covered by Medicare!” (Unbelievable–first thing to go if I were cutting the budget. THIS, folks, is what’s wrong with America.)</p>

<p>Per what DH read online, it was filmed on a mirrored stage set up in a desert so only the dancers and the skyline would be visible. Nicely choreographed!</p>

<p>I do not like the Korean Air commercials featuring strutting flight attendants. They fire their flight attendants after a few years due to aging, and they refused to let a terminally ill local resident to board one of their flights so she could spend the last weeks of her life and die in Korea, her country of birth. After media outcry, Delta stepped in and provided her and her daughter with business class tickets and flew them to Korea.</p>

<p>i like the toyota commercial where the only child (except for her sister) is worrying about her parents. </p>

<p>i like mayhem when he plays the blind spot.</p>

<p>i like the traveler’s commercial where the dog is worrying about his bone.</p>

<p>i, too, think the commercial where the little girl driving pulls away as a young woman–</p>

<p>too many repeats in my list–i apologize!</p>

<p>Winners: The Heineken series (“The Entrance”, “The Date”), Travelers’ dog (if it’s still airing)</p>

<p>Losers: The wife who wants to divorce her husband because he signed a cell phone agreement; the office dorks with their smartphones; any McDonald’s commercial from the last 20 years</p>

<p>I like the State Farm ad with the falcon. Hey, look at the falcon. All the goofy things people (men) bought with the money they saved.</p>

<p>Ditto on the babies filling their diapers! Another one I really detest is the Stanton Optical ad, where one pair of glasses becomes two, but not with a lot of screeching and grunting. Remember those “Head On” commercials? I hated the repetition and complained to the company. I think many others did too, as they finally quit running them.</p>
