Recent commercials -- winners and losers (subjective)

There are lots of new commercials. Most are the same old irritating ones that make you scramble for the remote control. On the other hand, a few new ones are interesting and funny.

I am on the fence with the DirecTv NFL commercials featuring Deion Sanders. My winners (currently) are made on behalf of VW. I like the Darth Vader and the one with people learning Spanish in the Passat the best. I also like the one with the guy at the gas station who needs to gas up his (us) electric car to earn a trip to the bathroom.

Interesting how car commercials can be good. The usual drivel with monster trucks riding through the desert or hauling half the US are really trite. And so is the need to have that Marlboro dude voice in all of them. :)

What are your favorites and losers.

PS Most local ads are awful, but that is not new.

I think the Target commercial (about Denim) with Ben Falcone is funny. He is the husband of Melissa McCarthy(Mike and Molly,Bridesmaids-I thought she was really funny hosting SNL on Saturday).

Love the one being re-played now about the kid in the Darth Vader costume, trying to use “the force” on everything.

Also like the recently stopped Ford commercial, of the customer that wanted to buy an American car, and one from a company that didn’t take bailout money.

Yay Air Marshall John!

I like the Geico one…“hit it Mr. Butters!”

I guess this is one thing I miss with a DVR!

What’s a commercial?

I just saw the VW ad about learning Spanish on the trip. That was great!

I HATE this U-Verse commercial!

So naturally it plays about 10 times a night when I’m watching TV.

Close behind is anything with the Charmin’ bears with the scraps of toilet paper on their butts and the voiceover telling me to “enjoy the go”. Yuck.

Love the VW Darth Vader one.

Also love the VW commercial where the car pinata just can’t be bashed.

VW has some really good ones now. Besides Darth Vadar and the New Beetles ones from months ago, that Spanish one plus the Slap Hands song are new cute ones.

I agree, PM, that Charmin ad is nearly enough to make me change brands

We watched the Missoni for Target commercial again and again before the products went on sale…we were trying to figure out what the actual items might look like.

DH loves the car ad where the dad is giving all sorts of advice to the little girl, then the teenager drives away. I love the “mischief” commericals from All-State.

I hate the entire line of Swiffer product commercials. But I must admit I admire the actress in the recent one who intones “I’m a film star … well, I’m a film.” She somehow rises above the lame lines and lamer ad campaign, and manages to be - not only not embarrassing, but even funny. There are so many more talented actors than available work - she’s probably played Medea or Hedda Gabler in regional theater and is trying to pay a few bills with commercial work. We get the commercials we deserve, I suppose.

If you remember the “I’m a Pepper” commercial from the 1980s (way before your time, xiggi), you might like this one I saw recently for “American Pickers”: [I’m</a> a Picker Commercial - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) It’s a show I’ve never seen and have no desire to see - but it’s a fun commercial. I liked the original, too. This is one of the follow-ups: [Dr.
The Prius people-person commercial just flat creeps me out. Unique and inventive yes, but CREEPY!!!

I love the car commercials with the rappin and dancing hamster’s. Hamster’s driving cars, hamster’s hip hop dancing, hamster’s nodding their heads in time to the music. So cute, so hip, such personality.

Both DH and I like the hamsters, too. A couple of weeks ago when DH flew to a meeting, I recieved a puzzling text from him, “hamster arrived safely”. I was not sure what that was supposed to mean until I recieved the second text - a photo of a bright red Kia box on wheels parked in front of the hotel where H usually stays. Turns out, Dollar gave him a “hamstermobile”. LOL :)

I like the creepy Prius people person, but I agree - it is CREEPY.

Love Allstate’s mayhem, too. That guy makes me smile every time I see one of those ads.

I’m not sure of the car “Venza”? where the daughter is sad about her parents’ lack of FB friends and the other one where the son thinks his parents are in bed when he gets home from work. I don’t like the car, but the commercials always make me laugh.

The little girl who drives away makes me tear up (of course last year when DS1 went away to school they ALL made me tear up :-).

I love the Snickers commercial with Aretha Franklin kvetching in the back seat of the car — you’re not you when you’re hungry — cracks me up every time, more so than the other variations on it.

The Subaru one with the little girl in the driver’s seat is priceless.

Lately, I’ve been regularly annoyed by the Heineken commercial with the slick hipster party scene (or whatever that’s supposed to be).

Has anyone see the AirFrance commercial with the dancers? If you watch it closely you will see a neat ending.

I just bought a new Passat. I have seen the Darth Vader commercial but not the Spanish one. I will have to look for it. I had no idea the car could teach me Spanish!
