Hi, I initially applied ED to ILR and ended up with a GT offer. I was interested in economics, HR, and general business at the time. But of course, I’m a typical teenager who changes their mind all the time lol. Now I’m looking more into finance, accounting, and marketing. I know it’s a long-shot, but do you think it’s possible for me to switch my GT offer from ILR to AEM? Would it be a bad idea to call?
Thanks guys!
@bigred19 I don’t think you’ll be able to do that. ILR gave you the GT because they didn’t have enough room for you at the time of your admission. AEM is already highly competitive for internal transfer spots and likely wouldn’t be able to accommodate that switch.
@CGZoo42 Yeah, that makes sense; thanks for the help!
As per the CALS/GT transfer info below. The answer is NO
Transfer Option Summary
The Transfer Option is offered to a select number of first-year applicants to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This non-binding option is not an offer of admission; candidates are required to complete a set of firm requirements and a short application to transfer to CALS sophomore year.
o This option pertains only to the major to which you initially applied. If you determine that you would like to
enroll in a different CALS major, you must submit a written request along with a statement of interest, an unofficial fall transcript and a copy of your spring course schedule to cals_admissions@cornell.edu between January 1st and March 1st. Make sure you have met the transfer requirements for the different major. You cannot request a change of major to Applied Economics and Management. The Selection Committee reserves the right to deny any change of major request.
o Students that have not completed the Transfer Option requirements will still be considered for transfer admission, but will be reviewed with the regular transfer applicants. The Selection Committee will evaluate each application on a case by case basis.
o Candidates who are offered a Transfer Option must reply (see calendar) to the CALS Admissions Office to confirm their interest in this offer.
A student who has transferred to Cornell University from another university or college is not eligible for internal transfer to the Dyson School.
^ That was a bit blunt…
It’s true that you can’t transfer to AEM as a GT (or any other transfer), but there are still ways for you to have a similar education by taking finance and marketing classes. I think all Cornell students can minor in AEM as well, so you could look into that for more options.
Congrats on the GT, and best of luck!
^not entirely true.
You can get a guaranteed transfer to AEM, but you have to apply to it initially.
Yup, that’s what I meant, my bad. You can definitely get a GT to AEM but if you weren’t offered it initially, then you can’t internally transfer once you arrive on campus.
@3rdsontocollege @jamesjunkers @Coriander23 Thanks for the replies guys!
Do you think I can apply as an external transfer for AEM? With my GT ILR as a backup? Idk if they allow me to submit two submissions, though.
However, if not, I think I’m going to end up getting the university-wide business minor. And I’m perfectly fine with that as well
I doubt they’d let you submit twice. Honestly, I’d just go with the ILR personally.
