Recipes needed for novice cook

My daughter lived in a dorm for two years. Now she is in an apt. and has to feed herself. (No more meal plan! :)). She is looking for recipes for a novice cook that aren’t too labor or time intensive. What have you or your kids cooked while in college? Any tips are appreciated!

Pasta…with sauce from a jar.

Omelettes with lots of veggies.

Stir fries.

Soup (canned worked fine) with sandwiches

Salads

Baked chicken (leftovers used on the salads)

Baked potatoes with toppings (cheese, veggies)

Pancakes

A Costco Crock pot is all that is between my DS and starvation… not seriously but he uses it probably 3-4 dinners a week. It came with a recipe book and I found one at a used book store and spent the whole 0.25 to buy it for him - so now he has two to chose from. Chicken enchiladas and Pulled pork are two favorites…

bagels or english muffins + pizza sauce + string cheese/provolone/mozzarella = quick pizza

Fried eggs + cheese + toast + slice of ham or turkey = breakfast sandwich

Our son had a small crockpot also. I cut our recipes in half and they were perfect for him. He particularly liked the beef stew, and the split pea soup. VERY easy to put together in the morning and it smelled so good when he returned home.

Chili is easy and good for leftovers and sharing.
My daughter also likes to make shrimp scampi with pasta because it requires only a few ingredients and is easy.
Daughter 2 loves fresh fruit and veggies from the farmer’s market so she ends up eating a lot of that instead of meals.

So much is contingent upon how and what she likes to eat, the amount of time she has or wants to spend, her current skill level or lack thereof.

There’s some great stuff in here:

I think Violadad needs to be crowned CC’s official archivist!

It’s so nice that kids have an interest in making some good food for themselves. Must be the Food Network/Top Chef influence. This site has some good, one-dish, easy recipes.
