My son transferred high schools and in our state you have to sit out an entire calendar year from sports when you transfer Then he got hurt after becoming eligible again. He just finished his senior year and even though he has the academic requirements to graduate, he is working to reclassify as a high school senior to have more opportunity for recruitment. Can this really be done?
I think the state governing board of HS athletics has to approve it, and then if he wants to play in the NCAA you need another approval because your core classes have to have been taken in 4 years?
Some states have age limits for sports. I think it is Virginia that doesn’t allow anyone who turns 19 before July 31 to compete? There was a story about this a few years ago as a student had a July 30 birthdate, and had started K at 6 and then repeating another year? What I remember is that if he had turned 19 two days later he would have been fine but as it was he could stay in high school but not play sports.
